For some people who have forgotten or didn't know that I'm also a contemporary dancer. Dance is what I've started my movement journey with as a kid, and graduated as a Contemporary Dancer with BA Hons in it last year. It turned out that I love both Contemporary Dance and Contortion. However, the practices are very different and demand the opposite qualities from my body. Oh well... what's new?! I love the challenges! I'm inspired and interested in learning how to embody both... and be a multidisciplinary artist. I find, these two communities of dance and circus are often secretly (or openly) judging each other a lot... As being both a dancer and a contortionist I see the conflict from both sides. Worth saying that in these two art forms I enjoy completely different things. In contemporary dance I love artistry, working with concepts, doing my research, pursuing flow of the movement and finding release; the hardest thing is not to work that hard... In contortion (and other circus disciplines) the artistry and concepts behind the acts can be simpler but what I love is challenging my body, constantly pushing the limits, really working hard, sweating, perfecting the lines of the extreme shapes. You see, it's quiet the opposites! I like the idea of an ability to switch from one set of qualities to another, and I'm working hard on improving it. What I don't like the most is when people from dance treat me as mostly "a contortionist "(with all the judgement coming with it), and people from circus treat me as "a dancer" (also with judgement...). Then it feels like I belong nowhere instead of belonging to both of those beautiful different worlds. Here's a piece of my dance improv.
