I think its because before covid I was moving away from family photography due to lack of time but this year.... it felt right, and I had time to capture the sweet memories people wanted to share with loved ones that they could not see regularly. I honestly cannot thank you all enough. The support I have felt over this year from our local businesses has been astounding. When the borders closed this year I cancelled New York, LA, Greece, London, and Bali plane tickets and accommodations within one week. I wondered about this new company I had launched and how it would ever survive. And it did. And in being home, in having space, in taking time to pause and reinvent and yes.... pivot.... it all thrived. And I had the ti...me to be here in this amazing space we choose to live in and I really actually got to live here instead of just stopping in between travels. And in this space I had time to see the amazing culture changers that were actually my neighbours. People who's brands I supported, who's companies I loved, who's stores I would pop into regularly, who's products I bought.... I found myself being the exact target client and able to take photos that would draw someone into trust/ because I was that person. I think in the past I overcomplicated it all- it really can be this simple. And it was with @seatosky_dreamteam - easy... flow.... hilarious. Because they are my people:) Integral, professional but also super fun. And that sums up the day with @kdillon_squamish and her amazing team. When we do a full day of branding photos our goal is to get as many different looks as possible.... to create a diverse and an intentional brand specific, upleveled content library full of images. And it takes a village - and I am so thrilled by the women who have surrounded and supported my vision for these shoots. We have all been a BUZZ of excitement this week with the launch of the new site for @aumakuaonlineclinic | and here is why..... Firstly- these women are healers. They focus on women's health and this is so dear to me. When they talked about who their target market was I wanted to shoot my hand up- the modern woman. The woman that is spinning all the plates and sometimes forgetting herself in the midst! Literally that was me before my cancer diagnosis. These ladies are helping... women balance and heal before they get the wake up call of their lives. Lucky ladies:) When I look back at my own journey I so wish I had found women I could relate to that were sharing this exact message. Secondly..... these ladies had an unbelievable team. Collaboration! It was @featherlitedesigns + @forthewildfemme and an afternoon of drinking champagne that connected us all together. And together we quickly caught each others visions - because... resonance. By the time they needed to add in visuals I knew @flockando and I could deliver! We were able to offer art direction, styling curation, wardrobe support, location (nest) styling, and an incredible library of images. Plus we were able to introduce and bring in @ninafarrauto for hair and make up. We have three sessions in total booked with these ladies to continue to build a library of images that will serve all of their marketing needs. However just from shoot one- and being intentional with the website design needs we were able to collect enough to launch the site. AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL. Like.... REALLY BEAUTIFUL. When you can say to them.... see.... see.... this is why we told you to come here... this is why we have made a life here. The Fig. Well.... her/she. Has been with us for almost 6 years and she deserves her own post. When we moved to Pemberton and had these beautiful windows I knew I wanted to try my green thumb on the 'finicky fig’ -And... within a year she was dropping her leaves and browning and I was diagnosed with cancer- seemingly very unrelated but duly noted. I spent a week between googling survival rates for breast cancer and ways to save a fig. It became my distraction- and my hope. An...d much to my family and friends dismay I may have whispered - "we are in this together"// which made this fig get all of the love and whispers of life from everyone. Around the time of my chemo I took the pruning scissors to her and cut off anything with brown spots - almost to nothing. I watched as one branch died completely tipping her to one side. Soon parts of her came back very much alive. We watched as she crawled to the light and sprouted new leaves even in the dormant seasons. Through the end of my treatment we started to cut her back as she reached the ceilings. We experimented with propagating her to make more baby figs. And although one side of her never came back.... the rest of her flourished. The little plant we bought became a tree. Our warrior tree that healed with me. I know for some it might feel silly.... I don't really care. I have learned so many lessons from watching this plant grow and die and grow again. And we are still amazed every time a new leaf appears. We are moving this weekend. And our new house does not have space and so tomorrow with the help of some very kind + brave + adventurous friends we are going to wrap it up against the cold and put her on a dolly and walk her down the street and through our little town to get to its new home. Our health food store @staywildnaturalhealth will be its new home. Our hope as a family is that it will flourish there and bring the same type of awe and healing to our community as it has to us. #figkarma See more

The women I get to be in front of my lens and consequently in my life...... mind blown. Kind, caring, community orientated culture changers. And it's not just them... on the big #allofyousessions I will most likely find myself spending time with your family and friends and getting a further glimpse into you you are by those you surround yourselves. I feel beyond fortunate to have found further community in these sessions. These little moments. This is what happens when you allow me into your space.... when I get to stay with you, get to know your kids and there becomes a level of comfort that all of the authenticity arrives without curation or set up. It just is. As it is. This is you in all of your you’ness. This is why you do what you do.... this makes all of the long work hours worth it. This truth where you are you - taking and making the time to put you and yours first. It snowed in Whistler this morning. SNOW! I just got excited for Fall.... I do not think I am quite ready for winter. What a weird year.... all of it. Cold mornings are making me want to be cozy at home with a hot mug of coffee and a quick browse to see what is new @indabatradingco because I got a sneak peek of their Fall collection when I was photographing them this Summer and it was all beautiful. We are moving next month and I am completely ignoring the need to pack and simply designing the space! What I loved about this shoot was the genuine nature of it..... families gathering at the river for a potluck dinner and fire. As you do. Like a shadow I am and I am not. Rumi We chased the light to find the shadows. We lost ourselves and found ourselves in the stillness of that intention. In presence we heard the trees speak to us from the creaking of their trunks to the rustling of the leaves. ... This shoot was a practice of living in the here + now.... a meditation. Summer Vibes with @squamishwaterkefir | I love when the authenticity of a brand literally introduces itself with the honest set up of photos which turns into amazing friends gathered around the river with kids playing, and women chatting. Nothing was set up... nothing needed to be changed outside of a few bottle turnings to see the labels. The last few weeks of getting back behind my camera has felt like this...... this photo @saraspectrum took of me at my favorite part of the river behind our house. Familiar and life giving. I am so fed by the amazing humans I get to photograph - sometimes I get confused about the service- should I be paying them?!!! The experience is such a collaboration- it goes both ways as I learn all about the client in order to take images that are full of depth- and in turn I receive the depth, experience and wisdom. Grateful. As grateful for this job as I am the sound of this river behind our home. #itallbelongs

I know.... I know..... enough with the daisies! or .... maybe never enough??? I am completely obsessed with the fields of flowers this year. I am sure they were here in past years but I didn’t notice. That’s terrible. One of the things I love about slowing down..... There are certain photos I just love. LOVE. LOVE. I know the second I take them that I will love it SO MUCH. I generally start jumping up and down.... I take in a deep breathe.... I actually get light headed. This was one of my photos. I think the biggest thing is that these photos are truly who my clients are- they tell on the authenticity of my client. They speak to something deeper.... a dream/ a hope/ a truth. Its like a thin veil moment.... I get to see something/ capture something that showed up in a sacred moment. I LOVE THIS JOB. I love photographing the inner being of my clients. AND.... I am about to share my new site with you all.... that shares the stories of these amazing humans. Cannot wait. IT ALL BELONGS. So much beauty and hope and pride, so much sadness and pain and horror. And I was reminded by a dear friend last night that we need ALL of it to truly heal. I’m just so sorry it took watching the murder of George Floyd on social media to create action on my part. I deeply apologize for my lack of effort to be anti-racist in the past and for the many excuses I used about living in a community that lacks diversity as a reason for my indifference. This ...week has been exposing and uncomfortable - I felt it all. A week ago I muted with the encouragement of #amplifymelanatedvoices so that we could give space to Black voices to be heard, and so that we as a white community could listen. This initiative led me to the most beautiful places where I found new artists, creators, activists. Where I learned from new teachers. Where I learned about the action required to be anti-racist. It also led me to dark placesmy own shadows where I found judgement. Judgement of my own industry and even my peers who seemed too silent, too unaffected. I was quick to judge and unfollow, which I now realize says a lot about my fearabout my not ‘enoughness’. We learn, we unlearn. We relearn. Allyship is earned and I need to keep doing the work to become better. I will keep my BLM story highlights of all of the amplified voices turned on. I am looking at every part of my life - being a mom, being a voice within my community, my own photography businesses - and actively working to establish unwavering anti-racism in them all. Booking announcement! Next week I will be releasing limited session dates this summer for your family, lifestyle and branding photography needs. I am being so careful and keeping an eye on all provincial recommendations for the processes and procedures in which to photograph you safely.... I will only be taking a limited amount of sessions for the summer... easing ever so slowly back into work. I will also be instilling new contracts so that if you book and pay a deposit to secure your date and if we have to reschedule due to Covid the process will be simple with rescheduling. Photography 101. Sadly not in the sunshine in person like in this video but ONLINE in zoom! 11am Sunday the 19th of April! If you are like me you might be going a little crazy inside and be looking for something to do! I have taken a few classes online this last month and have really enjoyed them. I think I enjoyed them because I felt no pressure or expectation on myself in taking them. I hope that you take that perspective with this offer.... I love teach...ing photography to beginners. And usually the hardest thing about it is picking a time where people are available. Considering we are all mostly available makes this super doable! Plus I have never taught a class online and I want to try it! This class will be for photography beginners, learn how to use your camera, even your iphone, to take photos you will love. This is NOT an overly technical workshop, it’s more about teaching you to shoot intuitively so you can take the photos you want to take with more confidence. Learn about light, lenses and the love of photography. Learn how to shoot intentionally by composing, interacting and building confidence in your subjects. Taking a step back, breathing and really thinking about the shot you want to take can make a world of difference in your photography and in the way you see the world. I am an open book and we end up talking a lot about life and the intention behind photography. As this will be my first ever online photography class and because we are in a world pandemic and most of us have lost our incomes I am offering this totally free. In return... I expect some grace during this class as I figure it all out! I look forward to joining you on this adventure.... it will be a super fun way to spend a Sunday morning. MEET Tracee | @tracee_stanley I want EVERYONE to know Tracee! I first met her @wanderlustfest in Whistler and was immediately drawn to her grounded and kind nature. Weeks later she reached out to me about taking some photos. And I was nervous.... Tracee had amazing photography on her socials + site. Stunning images of her from incredible photographers and I was intimidated.... and I wondered if my style would work for her. I shared my hesitations with her immediatel...y and shared about my philosophy of creating a library of authentic images..... candid captures, and real life moments. That resonated with her and this stage of life and we came up with a plan of capturing these moments. This shoot is still one of my favorite sessions to date. There was so much flow and ease in the day. We started in the dark right before the sunrise and it started with so much hope and light. Which was just so fitting. Right now Tracee is on the @onecommune podcast. Which is also an absolute favorite of mine led by @jeffkrasno. So you get to hear her.... experience her:) When things are in chaos we need tools to help us to begin to let go, to ground and to remember that place within that is always steady. Anyone else working from home and finding themselves OH SO DISTRACTED?!!! I am loving that I am getting through my to do lists.... ticking some things off because I have time and I am not adding new work by photographing so things are getting done without being added to. But honestly.... it's only because I have time. Productivity has not been my friend overall. Rest, naps.... working through the course I signed up for in January:), tending to my plants, looking up recipes f...or hours for dinner! I feel like I am living my best life as a retired 75 year old lady. If this is a peek of what life will look like.... sign me up! But for real... I have been really convicted to only work on what is in front of me and to not start new things. This means I can finish what has been in my brain for a long time and space and time has always been my excuse. @chasejarvis has a challenge out right now that I love- Make something with what you've got. That's the only thing you can do when you can't leave your house. Stop planning for when this is over - that's just reason to defer doing. Now is our chance to do more with less. Constraints breed creativity. I love this perspective change.... And I am seeing the truth in it. I really cannot wait to see all of the creativity that comes out of everyone after all of this. I think it is going to be all kids of beautiful. #itallbelongs

Meet: DEB KERN @drdebkern When I photographed @drdebkern in Austin, Texas last year I knew immediately from talking to her that our time was going to be transformational for both of us. But I had no idea just how much this time would influence my life. Deb is a health scientist, speaker, creatrix of PranaShakti and guide for the Sacred Shakti sisterhood. She blends wisdom and science to awaken and heal. And Deb... taught me to dance and the importance of m...ovement (I was lucky enough to join one of her classes where women drive for hours each week to participate)... if you do not let it move through you it will take up residence- especially in times like this... I help support women through transformation. Sometimes that is a bride saying "I do", sometimes that is through 'seeing' a woman who is going through an illness, or hardship with my camera, or across the table with a coffee in hand sharing resonance, other times it is consulting with a woman who wants to expand her business and get intentional with her marketing. And... it is all an absolute honor. Over this time of self isolation I am going to be highlig...hting some of the AMAZING women I get to call clients, friends and mentors. I want to introduce you to them. I want to share about what they are doing and how you can get involved with them. This is a time unlike any other.
