Technical Officer, Natural Product Chemistry City: Halifax Organizational Unit: Metrology Research Centre Classification: TO-3 Tenure: Term... Duration: until Dec 1 2021 Language Requirements: English The Technical Officer will carry out laboratory work associated with isolation and purification of organic compounds, particularly algal biotoxins, using preparative chromatographic techniques and perform evaluation of the data. The Technical Officer is responsible for purity and structural characterisation of compounds using a variety of analytical techniques including nuclear magnetic resonance and high resolution-mass spectrometry. The work requires extensive interactions with scientific and technical staff, so excellent communication skills are required. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed searchable inventories of raw materials used, fractions produced and samples analysed during these activities. They will also contribute to general activities of the Biotoxin Metrology team as required. Education Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field. College diploma in a related field may also be considered. Postdoc position available! Postdoctoral candidate sought for nomination for the MITACS Elevate Postdoctoral Fellow supported by MITACS and Nova Medical Testing Inc., Edmonton, AB. This PDF will work on a project focused on developing new mass... spectrometry tools and workflows for large scale metabolomics under the supervision of Professor Liang Li in the Department of Chemistry, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta. Project Overview Metabolomics has the potential to be used for monitoring the health status of individuals for precision health and precision medicine. Time-dependent and comprehensive analysis of an individual's metabolome is critical in order to determine patterns of changes to health-status related metabolite markers over a period of time. Professor Li’s research group, in partnership with NovaMT, develops new analytical tools and workflows for large scale metabolomics. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in developing these tools. With a strong background in bioanalytical chemistry and mass spectrometry, the PDF will work within a dynamic team composed of experts in chemistry, computing sciences, bioinformatics and health research. The PDF will have the opportunity to gain extensive work experience in a state-of-the-art metabolomics R&D and application field. Qualifications PhD degree in analytical mass spectrometry obtained within the last three years. Extensive experience in biological sample handling, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, MS data processing and analysis. Experience in metabolomics. Strong skills in MS method development for biological samples analysis. Ability to work independently and efficiently within an interdisciplinary team. Excellent record of peer-reviewed publications. Strong communication skills. Postdoctoral position available at the University of Calgary: Post-doctoral Fellow - Position available for 2 years The Heyne group is seeking a productive and highly motivated individual interested in photochemistry at the nanoscale.... Applicants should hold a PhD in chemistry or related discipline with experience in nanochemistry. Lab experience with nanomaterial synthesis, characterization (TEM, SEM, DLS), steady-state and time resolved spectroscopy (absorption, fluorescence), or microbiology techniques are highly desirable, but applicant with a strong background in a related area, track-record of accomplishment, and desire to work in a multidisciplinary team focused on plasmonics photo-inactivation of bacteria will be considered. Candidates should have excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a self-directed manner with others. Candidates should also have the ability to mentor both graduate and undergraduate students. A high level of productivity for peer-reviewed publications is expected.
