The Diet-Binge Cycle Look familiar? For many this is the reality of a lifetime of attempts to loose weight. It’s time to step back from quick fixes. You’ve tried, and you are right where you started again. It’s not for lack of effort either, we just can’t outsmart our bodies.... Long-lasting change begins with a single step, that slowly builds momentum over time, and eventually becomes automatic. So that when life gets stressful, or things don’t go according to plan, we have the skills to adapt and overcome. Heres the plan: 1. Drop your ideas that you need to take an all-or-nothing approach to food (Keto, Paleo, Fasting, 1200 Calorie, Detox. Etc). 2. Alter your environment to make the better choice, the easy choice. Get those foods that you tend to over consume out of the house. This doesn’t mean that you can t enjoy them, but when you do, you plan for it, buy an appropriate size serving, and enjoy it. 3. Drink water. Half your bodyweight in oz is an awesome place to start. I promise that after a week or so you will stop having to use the bathroom so much:) 4. Eat some protein and veggies. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in thinking that it has to be a beautiful side dish of sautéed kale, or stuffed chicken breast. Just look at your plate and see if you have these two items on there. Missing veggies? Grab a handful of spinach (carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, berries, etc.) and throw it on top. Not much protein? Have some precooked chicken breast, ground turkey, etc. in the fridge that is easy to grab and add. 5. Move your body. Even adding in a 10 minute walk will make a huge impact on your mood, evenly levels, and motivation. Start from where you are currently at, and add from there. Jumping into long arduous workouts after not having been moving for months can be daunting, and will end up being the first thing you skip when times get busy. 6. Give yourself a break. Drop the shame. Broke a promise to yourself? Don’t punish yourself by making an even tougher promise, and restricting/exercising harder. Instead, back that goal up, make it even easier and try agin. Move on from that setback, and brush your shoulders off. See more

But it shouldn’t be a continuous struggle. There will be times when you feel hungry, that’s normal. It’s important to remember that the only way to loose weight is to be in a caloric deficit. But where most people fail is they put themselves in a severely restrictive diet, thinking that the only way to find success is to cut out carbs, fat, milk, grains, insert evil food here. To top it off, while motivation is high, like right at the beginning of a diet, they jump st...raight into a routine of exercise that compounds the deficit. A few days/weeks later, in a moment of lowered willpower, they cave, eat everything in sight, and swear to get back on the wagon the next day. Because of the excess calories from the binge, the hunger fades for a few days, maybe a week, and then a repeat of the binge. The cycle of restriction and binging begins like this. Nutrition is confusing enough, and if you are looking for instant results, you will fail in the long term. The key is to find a sustainable deficit, either through exercise (not the most effective), or diet (more effective),or a combination of both (most effective) that you can stick to over time. Keep track of variables and make adjustments as needed. If you have already taken advantage of the low hanging fruit (7+ hours sleep, 1/2 your body weight in oz of water each day, vegetables at every meal, reducing stress, and thoroughly chewing your food, exercising), you could probably benefit from taking a look at your overall consumption. Download MyFitnessPal or a similar app, don’t worry about how many calories it tells you to eat, but just get a good idea of what you are taking in. Usually by just tracking and creating awareness this alters our food choices for the better, and can make a huge difference. You may not even be aware that the giant scoop of peanut butter you have each night is actually 300 cals. Start there. Still need help? Alright kids, the gainz have arrived!!!! We are hustling whey protein concentrate ($25 1kg) and fresh off the press stainless steel blender bottles ($35). These bad boys are slick. They not only have a smaller drinking top, but the whole top spins off too so you can actually clean it (I know, right?)! Oh, and the sticker on the side says it keeps things cold for 24hours!... Lots of chocolate peanut butter protein in stock right now. Let Christine know if there is a flavor in particular you are looking for and I’m sure she can get it in. #nutrition #nutritionist #vancouverisland #vanisle #newme #yyjnutritioncoach #nutritionmatters #nutritionfacts #coach See more

But where are my results? Working out has many benefits, but weight loss may not always be one of them. Evidence suggests that the work we do in the gym actually doesn’t impact our weight loss as much as we think! Sneaky reasons why include:... 1. There is a tendency to overeat on days that you exercise as a result of greater hunger or just simply eating more as a reward for exercising. 2. It is easy to overestimate the amount of calories you burn while working out. 3. After a hard workout, you may just slow down for the rest of the day because you are tired. The calories we burn throughout the day due to our normal daily activities (NEAT) accounts for a far greater amount of calories burned than we can perform in a single gym session. If you are looking to loose weight (body fat), it may be time to start having closer look at your nutrition. Hiring a nutrition coach makes this simple. They can provide a custom nutrition and lifestyle plan that orients you toward your goals and aids you at every step along the way.
