Do you have pain with overhead pressing? Follow @anchor.georgina for everything health, fitness & rehab Pain with overhead pressing is a very common complaint among active individuals.... There are many possible causes of pain, but often it is due to a lack of mobility in the upper body and shoulder, restricting the shoulder blade from moving freely and causing a pinch in the shoulder The Solution (Swipe for video demo) The single arm landmine press is a great compromise for training pain free and still getting the benefits of overhead pressing because it trains the same motion without putting the lifter into a full overhead position! The set up: place a barbell into a fixed corner (one that you aren’t worried about scratching, or place a matt under it) setup either kneeling (more difficult) or standing (less difficult), with the hand just in front of the shoulder keeping your bum and core engaged, press the weight overhead, leaning slightly forward with the weight Shoulder pain not going away on its own? Feeling a little extra stressed this week? You might be holding tension in areas you never thought of before. In a 2001 study, researchers examined the bodys response to stress by looking at the pelvic floor and upper trapezius (those achy muscles on the tops of your shoulders) and found that the pelvic floor muscles actually contracted BEFORE the trapezius when women watched scary movies. The face you make when coach says go again! . Devin has been training at ANCHOR for over a year (time flies when youre heckling having fun) We recently asked her how she got started and heres what she said:... . Well, at the beginning of 2019, I found myself very unmotivated to get my toosh into gear and to try to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Then, one chilly day in February, at a wedding, I saw my good friend, Mrs. Jennifer MacRae, and oh my goodness - she strutted through the lobby just like she owned the place. Not only did she look fantastic, but her confidence was just booming. So, I asked her "how?!" and her response was "come to ANCHOR". I decided to start. Ever since I stepped foot in the doors of ANCHOR, the coaches and staff have been so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. It has now been just over a year since I joined this home of health and I'm loving every minute of it, even when I'm lying on the floor drenched in sweat trying to recover from a WOD.

THANK YOU This #WorldHealthDay were not only celebrating the people working hard to keep us safe, were making an effort to turn a global health crisis into a learning opportunity. This is the first time in our lives we have witnessed a global health scenario like this: what can we learn from it? Times like these remind us to invest a little more in self-care, to never take our health for granted, and to provide for the people who need it most in our community. Hi ANCHOR family, While the risk to York Region residents of COVID-19 remains low, we have recently seen major steps taken by the federal and provincial government, along with the town of Georgina to curb the spread of the virus. It is clear that measures like social distancing are necessary in an attempt to avoid consequences later on. As health and fitness professionals, we have a responsibility to lead by example and support the health of our community.... As such, we have decided to close the doors to the gym and studio effective tomorrow March 15, and reevaluate March 31. We will keep you updated as things evolve. .
