Charity on Diwali? Philanthropy is important! Recent studies show that those spending money on others experienced greater happiness. They also found that there were neurological benefits as well. It releases Serotonin which is the happiness hormone. Charity work goes beyond the feel good factor, it actually improves one’s decision making, their health and a feeling of well being.... You give food directly to a hungry soul, he or she gives you blessings which come from the heart. It helps you cut down on your bad karma. What can be a better day to start your charitable work, than on Dhanteras (a festival which comes two days before Diwali)? it may change the whole perspective of what gives you more happiness. Here are five things to donate on Dhanteras. Doing some sort of volunteer work or giving directly to the poor and hungry is always good. It pleases Goddess Mahalaxmi, for ‘anna dan’ (donating grains) is a superior kind of donation. Giving iron in donation is considered auspicious. Consider buying tools for a tradesman or iron utensils. Remember not to buy iron on Dhanteras day. Buying a set of clothes or any household stuff for a newly married couple pleases Goddess Laxmi. Surprisingly buying ‘jhadu’ or a broom for a temple is immensely pleasing to Goddess Laxmi. Does it denote cleanliness? Giving cash is always good if nothing else. At least 10% of what you are going to spend for your Diwali, consider giving in donation. Like my post? Press on the like button, so that a new post can reach you directly.

Is there something you want to know in particular? e.g. How Vastu can affect your career, finance, relationships and your well being? ... You and your concerns on Vastu are my biggest reasons for writing a bog. As a token of appreciation, I'll send you my 'Pocket book on Vastu' if you respond with your email address. Rhinoplasty in Britain after reading Sushruta? Ayurveda, the science of healthy living is attributed to Dhanvantari, the physician to the gods in Hindu mythology. He received it from Brahma, one of the trinity gods of Hinduism. According to another source, Brahma created Ayurveda and then transmitted this knowledge to his son, Daksha Prajapati. Daksha passed it down to the twin Vedic healers Ashwini Kumaras. It is also believed that Ayurveda was introduced by Parasurama, whe...n he created Kerala. Initially it was an oral tradition like Yoga. Much of the knowledge was passed father to son, but the word Ayurveda first finds mention in the Atharva Veda, the fourth book of the Vedas. Ayurveda deals elaborately with measures for healthy living the entire life. Living in harmony with nature, a concept you will find inherent in all ancient Indian scriptures. Sanskrit word 'ayur' meaning 'life' and 'veda' meaning 'to know'. Charaka Samhita, the classic Ayurvedic text was written by Sage Charak, perhaps parallel to the Vedas. It is a treatise on general medicine which is still practiced today. Later the knowledge was adopted by the Buddhist monks, who spread it to China, Tibet, Korea, Mongolia and Sri Lanka, leaving a lasting legacy in the medical field. Sage Sushruta contributed to modern medicine the discipline of plastic surgery, say 1000 years before Christ. They say that the British took the original text and introduced rhinoplasty to the western world. Sushruta, in his Samhita mentions eight branches in Ayurveda: Kaya Chikitsa General Medicine Bala Roga Chikitsa Paediatrics. Graha Chikitsa Treatment for evil spirits. Urdwanga tantra E.N.T & Ophthalmology Shalya Chikitsa Surgery Visha Chikitsa Toxicology Rasayana Chikitsa Rejuvenation Therapy Vajeekarana Chikitsa Aphrodisiacs Any branch of medicine missing? In Kerala also, these eight branches are prevalent, but they don’t follow so much Shalya Chikitsa. In 5th century AD, another sage Vaghbata wrote Ashtanga Hridayam. It summarized almost all the knowledge put forward by Charak and to some extent by Sushruta. Like it? Say so.

The ancient knowledge is a storehouse of information. I will restrict myself to the benefits and how does that help us to be healthier, happier and more successful. But a little background is essential Vedas are the original texts, and they came to us through the ‘Saptarishis’, who got it from Shiva or Brahma and the Supreme Being. These were given for our benefit, on how to live a better life. Initially they were an oral tradition. But sage Ved Vyas thought this knowledge wo...uld be lost and he reduced them to writing. He divided them into four parts. Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sam Veda and Atharva Veda. Each Veda consists of four parts - the mantra-samhitas or hymns, Brahmanas, the explanations of mantras or rituals, the Aranyakas, the theologies and the Upanishads, the philosophy. These are metrical poems comprising prayers, hymns and incantations addressed to various deities. Sanatan Dharma, teaches us four goals of human life: Dharma, i.e. the ethics and duties. Artha, i.e. the work and prosperity for survival. Kama, i.e. passion and desires for the perpetuation of human race. Moksha, i.e. liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Dharma is the most important in day-to-day life because at the end, this is what will lead to Moksha. Neglect Dharma in favor of the material pursuits of Artha and Kama, life becomes chaotic. And one cannot attain Moksha, which is the ultimate goal of human life. What is worse, even Artha and Kama will not be long lasting if you neglect Dharma. Natya Shastra, a text dealing with performing arts is a branch of Gandharva Veda, a sub text of Samveda. The Atharva Veda, includes Ayurveda, the school of medicine. It is considered as Upa Veda and Sage Charak is the patron of Ayurveda. Vaastu or Vastu Shastra originates in the Sthapatya Veda, a part of the Atharv Veda. Vastu shastra means Science of Architecture. Shelter is one of the basic needs of every living being. Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, is patron of Vastu shastra. Yoga like most of the Vedas, comes out of an oral tradition in which the teaching was transmitted directly from Guru to shishya. Sage Patanjali has written this oral tradition into his classical work, the Yoga Sutra, a treatise on yogic philosophy. A collection of 195 statements, the Sutra provides a philosophical guide for dealing with the challenges of being human. How to gain mastery over the mind, emotions and spiritual growth, the Yoga Sutra provides the framework for yoga practice. Like it? Say so.
