Long over due changes.
The ‘full or empty cup’ analogy is a really easy, tangible way of thinking about behaviour - in adults as well as children
We need to pay a bit more attention to how children are coping emotionally with COVID fatigue. This isn't a legal issue. It's a mental health issue.
Self care is important.
This hand signal she does signifies domestic abuse and could save someone's life. Please take a moment to watch and learn. "The 'signal for help' has been creat...ed by the Canadian Women's Foundation, which says the social isolation measures necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic are making it more difficult for those who are at risk of abuse or violence to reach out. You can find the foundation's full advice on the best steps to take and how to help in the case of emergencies by going to their website which also provides resources with advice on what to do if you feel unsafe at home and are unable to make video calls." I will be working from home for the time being as much of you will be as well. Stay safe.
No new video from me this week, so here's a throwback to last summer. Maybe this will be relevant for some of you as you try to squeeze in one last family vacation before the school year kicks back in. Watch: https://buff.ly/2xRnYVz
Divorced done right.
I love Sesame Street and I love their new #trauma resources for young children. In this video, Cookie Monster is having a hard time with big feelings, so he’s l...earning Birthday Breathing. Directions: * Hold up one handit’s a birthday cake with five candles! * Pretend to blow out one of the candles: take a deep breath in and then blow out, curling the finger down as you finish exhaling. * Repeat with the other four fingers until you have a fist. Notice how you feel now. Repeat if needed. You can teach a child to do this by themselves, or support them by pretend lighting your own candle fingers for them to blow out. "In the aftermath of trauma, when our brains may be hijacked by fear, anxiety, or anger, breathing techniques and nonverbal activities such as coloring can help kids and adults get unstuck. Paying attention to our breath is a simple grounding strategy that helps us press a reset button to pause and come back to the present moment. And it can be done anytime, anywhere."
