Happy Monday! I wrote a little something today for the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine in celebration of Samuel Hahnemann's 262nd birthday and #worldhomeopathyday:

This is one step closer to finding out how homeopathic remedies work: this study shows they change the attachments on DNA, this in turn affects gene expression.... When we have a chronic or acute disease some genes are either on that should be off, or off when they should be on. There is already a long list of diseases associated with epigenetic mutations and it is one if the fastest growing areas of investigation. How such a dilute substance can change this attachment or marker is still unknown.

Here's a nice article from back in 2010. This was written by a scientist who was a homeopathic skeptic, but upon investigation, went on to become a homeopath herself. The history of homeopathy is full of skeptics turned believers! Hahnemann wrote in his book, The Chronic Diseases, in 1826: ... "The discovery that crude medicinal substances (dry and fluid) unfold their medicinal power ever more and more by trituration or succession with non-medicinal things, and in greater extent the further, the longer, and the stronger this trituration or succussion is carried on, so that all their material substance seems gradually to be dissolved and resolved into pure medicinal spirit; this discovery, unheard of till made by me, is of unspeakable value, and so undeniable, that the skeptics, who from ignorance of the inexhaustible resources of nature in the homoeopathic dilutions, see nothing but mechanical division and diminution until nothing remains, must see their error as soon as they appeal to experiment." So thankful to Sharyl Attkinson for giving this excellent talk about the manipulation of media messages. We see these tactics known as 'astroturf' used so often against homeopathy.
