Just watched some of George Floyd’s memorial on YouTube. This is the craziest shit I've ever seen. Imagine going back in time, meeting this guy ten years ago an...d telling him, yeah, you’ll have a fairly normal and uneventful life out of the public eye but your eventual murder by cop will be so horrific, so criminally unjust and so incredibly perfectly timed that it will spark a global revolution and turn you into a martyred symbol that hundreds of millions will rally around. A video of your excruciating and utterly pointless death will become the most widely-circulated thing on the internet. Angry mobs will burn down the police precinct your murderers were stationed at and destroy half of Minneapolis. Entire cities will riot, chanting your name, holding images of you aloft. Every single state in the US will rise up in protest, becoming the biggest civil rights movement in world history. Countless murals of your face will be painted all over the planet, from Syria to Ireland to Nairobi. People will mourn for you across the earth as they stream into the streets by the millions to demand justice, people who only knew you in those weirdly intimate moments of your death, people stunned with rage and horror watching you cry out for your mother as the life left your body. Every world leader will know who you are. Barack Obama will address the nation to express his sorrow over your passing. Kanye West will personally donate millions of dollars to your family and Reverend Al Sharpton will speak at your funeral, which will be broadcast globally on every major news network. The President (Donald Trump, lol) will turn armies of brutal jackbooted thugs in SWAT gear loose on the entire US population in retaliation for the national outpouring of grief and anger over your murder while he hides in a bunker under the White House and incoherently rage-tweets. All of this will happen during a once-in-a-century global pandemic where hundreds of thousands are dying of a mysterious bat virus and tens of millions are unemployed due to economic collapse. You will make history, give strength to countless people and change the entire world but you will never, ever see any of it happen. Jesus fucking Christ.

For my fellow sewers in Durham: I visited a fabric shop called Fabric Palace across from Walmart in Ajax today, and I wanted to share what I found. They are a ...brand new business and were only open a matter of weeks before everything shut down. It's a small shop, with an affordable selection of fabrics including 100% cotton prints for $8.99/m, and solids for even less. Broadcloth was $4.99, if I remember correctly. They also have fashion and upholstery fabrics too. For anyone who is too impatient to wait for curbside pick-ups, or likes to see what they are buying like me, the shop was organized and not busy, and their staff was very happy to help! See more
