The rocky mountains are one of my favorite places to visit. Our Canadian landscape changes significantly between seasons. The winter time has a special look to it. Aurora show, just another powerfull statement from motherearth out in the northern hemispheres. After a late night shoot in Senja, and while driving home, we stopped every now and then to watch the dancing aurora above our heads. Its fascinating and very addicting. You may have seen this image on our January Calendar this year (Still some for sale). Senja was one of the most spectacular landscapes we had seen in the winter time. I really felt like an explorer in this area. Every day was a new adventure, hiking up mountains, trails and staying up all night to see the aurora. This shot was taken at full moon, and it was almost as if it was daylight. In the winter, there is about a month that goes by without any light, and gradually in th...e summer, there are days when the sun never goes down. The moon light was great so we could actually see the landscape from a far distance. It also allowed us to have a couple of shots with clean foregrounds. The aurora appeared every night and that created a problem for us,,, lack of sleep .We couldn't go to bed at night without being awaken by the green light coming through our cabin window. It was amazing. One new discovery for me in New-Brunswick. We stumbled onto this location right around the sunset last week. These trees seem to be clearly in the water all year round although I am not certain of this. The frozen lake made one of the most surreal cracking sounds that I have heard. This was also the only night with any light in the sky. I decided I wanted to stay here for the night and wake up for the sunrise light. Unfortunately 2 things happened. Snow and heavy clouds. Last night's sunset was spectacular at Cape Jourimain's lighthouse. Despite our usual weather apps predicting a cloudy colourless sunset, I could see heavy low clouds near a blue sky. We checked the winds direction and headed into the thick clouds hoping the wind would push these away at just the right time. We almost turned around since it almost looked as if our timing would be off. To my great surprise, the timing was perfect. Peyto lake, just another glacier fed lake in the rockies that we miss. It's such an iconic photogenic spot. The lake itself is shaped like a wolfs head which is what I like the most. This place is an easy find in the rockies, not far away from Lake Louise at the beginning of the iconic Icefield Parkway route connecting the Banff area and Jasper. The overlook area is a short walk from the parking lot. My absolute favourite image from my trip in Norway. The image itself was taken a couple of hours after I spent the night trying to capture the aurora (Check my post from yesterday). This is a multi row panoramic image that really captures the essential of the Lofoten islands in my opinion. You can see the small islands with a couple of houses connected by bridges with one of the most amazing backdrops. The mountains looks like a dragons tail coming out from the Caribbean turq...uoise Atlantic Ocean. In this shot, you can see many of my other photography locations. First shot with my new toy, the fuji GFX 100. I have been looking at a medium format camera for sometime now and I got a hold of one. This scene was right in my backyard. The tides were receding and the water was still, like a large mirror. The ice has melted and many small icebergs were found around the beach. I couldn't resist getting a shot with the new camera. Throwback Thursday! Since we are redoing our website, I stumbled across some images that I took a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed spirit island in maligne lake. It's a small island about 12km distance from the maligne lake entrance. You can either canoe your way here, or take one of the boats for the ride. The downside to the latter is that you only have about 30 minutes to explore if I recall well. The place is surreal, the water is unnaturally turquoise coloured surro...unded by towering snow top mountains.I think next time I would enjoy kayaking here and staying overnight for the sunrise. This small island has put Jasper on the map, making it world renowned and it helped with the tourism. I can understand why. Winter has not started yet but I cant wait to get out there and explore our province in a different atmosphere. This one was again from the Lofoten Islands. This was taken late at night when the aurora just showed herself to us for a brief moment. We stood here for a couple of hours, just waiting. Finally, the clouds split and revealed the aurora, our first sighting. I spent another couple of hours, hoping that the clouds would clear but they didn't. While looking back at some of out past trips I found some interesting scenery I never shared. This was from Senja, in Northern Norway. There is no shortage of beautiful sceneries here, with its wild, mountainous outer side that faces the Atlantic Ocean. Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park is as charming as it gets. We are lucky enough to have visited this place in different seasons. Last winter, we stayed in a cabin here for a couple of days and it was the highlight of our trip. The best part is that there is no internet connection. We could almost say its a well needed detox centre for technology addicts. We had a cozy fire in our wooden cabin, great wine and amazing food in the main cabin. Outdoors was nothing short of spec...tacular. The tall mountains surround the beautiful turquoise lake. The trees are massive and many were bending because of the heavy snow. At night, an outdoor fire pit with slow falling snow made it look like a winter wonderland. One of the benefits of living in Canada is its 4 seasons. I just love the rich fall colours such as these 2 trees next to each other. The morning light illuminated the trees and the ground right where I wanted. I was just at the right place at the right time. This image was taken in Yosemite valley in California last year. I was able to catch a young deer in the shot in the lower left corner. I was amazed how curious he was. I was sitting on a small rock near the river/lake when I spotted him. He walked over to see me and he was only 3-4 feet away. He spent the morning eating a small patch of grass next to me while I was photographing the sunrise over El Capitan reflected in the water. I called him John, John Deer. One of my favourite spots now since it's so close to home. I had an idea of heading out here during high tide to catch the Galaxy's core that I would have blended with the blue hour shot. I got here early enough to get the blue hour shot and stayed much later to get all of the images necessary for the night shot. When I started to look into my images, I really liked this simple blue hour shot. It's the time of transition between day and night and this shot represents just tha...t. The stars are appearing in the sky and the sunset light is still present. The golden appearance on the rocks is an effect from the lights behind me. This image is a very calming to my eye as the sky and the water appear so soft. I enjoyed this image so much that all of the night shots I got a couple of hours later I did not edit them. This is one of my favourite local lighthouses. Unfortunately, no one can photograph it anymore since it was destroyed in early 2020. It has been replaced by a new and shiny white lighthouse that has a lot less character in my opinion. I took this image back in may 2019, after I had spent the night photographing the milky way around the lighthouse. You may remember that image, it still is one of my favourites. The sunrise was nothing short of exceptional the next morning with ...colourful orange, red and pink clouds. I could not resist creating an image despite being very tired, dehydrated and hungry. I walked back on the beach for 12 km with my heavy bag on my shoulders.
