https://youtu.be/03BGvgBBD5E New series this week! Sing-Along Sundays will aim to create piano tracks with lyrics so that everyone can sing-along, especially while we are unable to sing together in person. This inaugural episode features Anyone Can Whistle from Anyone Can Whistle, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. This song is great for those who can handle large leaps within a relatively limited range. I have recorded it in the higher key of E-flat because there are ...lots of anthologies that have the song in that key but I haven’t found any backing tracks in that key. The original key from the show is C. If you have any suggestions for future Sing-Along Sundays, I welcome them in the comments.

THURSDAY THOUGHTS #2 - Being an Ally as an Artist https://youtu.be/EXu-EiW_SY4 On this week’s Thursday Thoughts, I talk about some of the things that we artists, especially performing artists, can do to be effective and impactful allies. This is for anyone who holds a position of privilege in a situation to which they want to ally themselves. This was a difficult video for me to put together, and so I give many many thanks to all of the people who helped me, especially thos...e members of underprivileged communities who helped me to ensure that I as a privileged person was still reflecting the needs of the various communities. This video is a sort of synthesis of feedback, both formal and informal, from people and sources from a variety of marginalized communities that I have collected, and is by no means exhaustive of what allyship entails. I want to continue this conversation. If you have thoughts on this video, criticism or other resources (of which there are so many), please contribute them in the comments of either this post or on the video itself. I look forward to an engaging discussion of this issue!

I am delighted to publish my first Mashup Monday video. This will be an ongoing series bringing songs together in interesting ways either for text or for musical content. Today’s first Mashup Monday is My House from Matilda and No One Is Alone from Into the Woods. Hope you enjoy the video here:... https://youtu.be/6XZE0mEz3hI If you have any ideas for things you’d like to see on Mashup Mondays, please let me know in the comments. Thanks to Joe Recchia for the graphic work.

I am delighted to launch my YouTube channel, where I am able to express my creativity about musical theatre in an official forum. Please watch the video and like and subscribe if you are interested in seeing more of my content. I Remember is one of Sondheim’s hidden(-ish) gems, and I am delighted to share some of my views on why I love this song with you all. Thanks to Joe Recchia once again for helping me through the technology of the process. https://youtu.be/7MllYOxsuv...A #ThursdayThoughts

Friends, in an effort to try to encourage my students to continue to have lessons, I am going to be wading into the field of video-based lessons online to existing as well as new students. If you are interested in exploring your voice while we are being urged to distance from each other (and also no matter where you live), please either comment on this post, or reach out to me directly on messenger. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you know! Please direct people to www.andrewrethazi.com if they have any questions about who I am as an artist or as a teacher. I will continue to offer my normal roster of voice, piano, violin, viola, and recorder lessons online. I am currently working on a delivery format for music theory and history, and that information will be available soon.
