As Selwyn residents we live in a diverse township - this includes our vast geography, the different villages and rural areas our residents live in, our many types of businesses and our wide range of municipal services. In campaigning for Mayor of Selwyn Township one thing is very consistent however - people like to live in our community. They appreciate the fact we have the lowest tax rate in Peterborough county, that we have built up substantial reserves to meet unexpected c...hallenges, that we have done a good job maintaining our roads and that our community offers a range of recreational and cultural activities. My commitment as mayor is to maintain Selwyn as a great place to live, work, operate a business and enjoy what our township has to offer. In moving forward it will be important to build on our success as we address the challenges we face - being inclusive and recognizing all parts of our community. My platform outlines an approach to build on our achievements and meet future challenges by: Providing prudent fiscal management of tax dollars Responding to resident’s concerns in a timely manner Promoting a healthy and safe environment Protecting resident’s enjoyment of their property Supporting local businesses and job creation Providing additional recreational opportunities for families

Signs, signs, election signs!!! Signs on lawns are one of the surest indicators that an election is in full swing! As I go door-to-door to talk with residents about the issues important to them in Selwyn, I sincerely appreciate it when people ask to take a sign. Thank you so much to all of you so far who have taken a sign in support of my candidacy for mayor. For those of you who would like to take a sign, please email me at [email protected] or call me at 705-931...-4873, and I will arrange to deliver one of my signs to you. I really appreciate your support! While election signs on lawns are a great way to show personal support, candidates may also place signs on public property provided they follow the rules of the Township, the County, and the Province. In Selwyn, no signs are permitted on a Township roadside or on any public road allowance. The County of Peterborough and the provincial Ministry of Transportation (MTO) do, however, allow election signs on their road allowances with certain restrictions. So if it's a County road or a provincial road, you may see election signs on the roadsides. Sign placement during an election requires a great commitment, and candidates truly appreciate the effort of their volunteers and sign recipients. I know I do! Thank you very much!!

Took a short break from the campaign this week to maintain a special family tradition. One of the things my youngest children enjoy doing is camping and since they have been very young we have gone tenting. Something special about waking up in a tent, watching the sun come up, hearing the birds begin to sing, and fixing breakfast outdoors. Despite a deluge of rain this year the kids had a great time and we all managed to stay at least a little dry. Everyone looking forward to next year.

This past week my house to house canvass began in earnest. I visited over two hundred homes and had informative conversations with residents about issues important to them. Folks appreciate what a great place Selwyn is but know there is more to be done and important issues to address like municipal services, water quality, infrastructure investment and support to our farmers and small business community. One of the recurrent questions is about the municipal voting process in ...2018. The Township will offer internet and telephone voting for the 2018 election. Both of these methods allow electors to vote from anywhere within the defined voting period using a telephone or the internet. Residents should ensure they are on the voting list by going to; http://www.selwyntownship.ca//town/electioninformation.asp. For the 2018 elections, the voting period will be from October 9, 2018 (commencing at 10:00 a.m.) to October 22, 2018 until 8:00 p.m. Eligible voters will receive a personalized voting instruction package by mail before Election Day. The package will provide details on how to vote online or by phone. The information package will also include a secret PIN number that electors use to access the voting system. Electronic and telephone voting stations will also be available at the Municipal office during the defined voting period for public use.

As I campaign for Mayor I am taking the opportunity to meet with members of our local agricultural community. This past weekend I attended the Peterborough County Cattleman’s annual barbecue which saw hundreds of people turn out for good food and companionship. Selwyn Township has a long and proud history of agriculture. It is an important part of our local economy and contributes to a strong provincial and national industry. As we move forward we need to encourage local fo...od production, processing and consumption. Agriculture-tourism is also important to our area and helps attract visitors to our community including our farmers markets. If elected mayor I intend to draw on my past experience to work with council, local producers, senior levels of government and other partners to support our local farm community and to assist them in producing new jobs and addressing local food security.
