Design Tip Thursday: ’Tis the season! One our favourite part of the holidays is the decor items that can be incorporated into an outdoor space. You can make the items you use practical while still tying in to the overall festive feel. For example, this black bucket holds the salt while being part of the decor. Another thing to consider is using faux greenery, so you can use it year after year, and will withstand the cold weather. Lastly, think of grouping things together to make more of impact!

Design Tip Thursday: We still enjoy a feature wall in a shower or tub area. However, the word feature" doesn’t always need to translate to be extreme or expensive. Creativity can always play a factor by using simple, cost effective tiles and installing them in fancier ways :). In this washroom, we kept the tones similar but applied different techniques. On the shorter walls we used a standard subway tile installed horizontal and stacked, while on the longer feature wall a standard glass tile was laid in a herringbone pattern. The different tones, finishes and patterns installed between the main and side walls creates a subtle focal point. Ending off with a slab for the bench, compliments the shades in both tiles, resulting in an overall neutral and calming feel.

Design Tip Thursday: We love a classic white kitchen! It is timeless and endlessly elegant. The millwork hood fan, the wolf cooktop, the drawers, the upper glass cabinets and the detailed kick in this completed project makes us . However, as dreamy as it is, you still need to consider function. But sometimes with that, appliances and daily objects can become an eyesore. So, we included pull out storage on each side of the cooktop, disguised as pillars, and we hid the dishwasher with the false drawers in front. The result is a continuous run of base cabinets that allows symmetry and balance to the space.

Design Tip Thursday: We love mudrooms! But sometimes there’s no place to incorporate a dedicated room in a home. When this is the case, we try to sneak in a place for every day drop offs and storage. In this home, the foyer and entry by the garage was fairly large, but not large enough to provide a segregated mudroom. So we extended the wall out a little bit from the foyer, which also helps block the visual from the kitchen. We then had a custom bench installed with upper cabinets and a shelf for extra storage. This area helps to keep things out of the way from the front door while providing easy access from the side entrance. Very helpful for your quick daily clean ups!
