Work in progress. Work in progress. Work in progress.... It is soooo unfamiliar having several paintings on the go at once. I am typically a start to finish all at once kind of painter. But I am LOVING the results of working one layer at a time. I’m loving the freedom is gives me to work more frequently. The thing is, being a mom, an artist, learning online, earning a separate income that has nothing to do with art, and now online learning, is a lot. It’s too much. Too much to ask of our children, our teachers and of ourselves as parents. It’s enough to make us all go a little cuckoo! No, just me? At the moment I’m feeling really grateful for @milanartinstitute and their mastery series vol. 1 and the freedom it’s given to me to learn at my own pace. To explore mediums one layer at a time. Someday I’m going to commit to their full year Mastery Program, and I can’t wait for that day! As for right now, I’m taking things one layer and one day at a time. (This is a close up of my most recent work in progress) #paintinglayers #motherhoodpainting #milanartinstitute #mylifeisaworkinprogress
I can’t wait for my oils to arrive so I can add a layer that makes everything move forward and backward and bring each brush stroke to life! - work in progress- #artnerd #isthatathing #itisnow

My art space has never been more cluttered or messy; but I’ve also never worked in hour intervals before either. I typically give it a full day or not at all in order to fall into that creative rhythm. Now as I’m exploring new and old materials, layering techniques and bringing life to old pieces. I find myself constantly thinking about my art. Stealing an hour during my son’s nap time or two in the evening. I am often searching through ideas and creating designs by compili...ng images to be painted later. Sketching ideas while my children colour by my side, impatiently waiting for the next layer of paint. I watched the Queens Gambit recently with my husband and I thought How can anyone be that obsessed with chess? ...and then it dawned on me that that is exactly how I am about artwork. I’m obsessed. Making art is the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I think about before I go to bed. I can’t stop. I won’t stop. The better I feel I’m getting, the better I want to be. #raceagainstme #whatinspiresyou #folowyourheart

The twins are coming along nicely. Its weird, tracing the outline in my canvas first. I have done that in a decade but I like the results! #workinprogress #timelapsepainting #theolsentwins
