As moms, I think some of us are feeling like this whole pandemic moment in time is crazier than regular life Some people are posting the cool stuff they’re learning, and books they’ve always wanted to read and language they’re mastering and I’m over here like... omg if I could just end the day with one clean room in this house, I’ve done ok. But I’m really going to push to try and do that one thing I’ve been putting off. Something I wa...nt to do, for the pure joy of it. Painting? Journaling? Knitting? Learning to finally play the guitar I bought all those years ago, and sits as decor in my living room? It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... This has been such a whirlwind of change flooding our lives over the past few weeks. If someone had told me six months ago that we would have to cancel everything we know and stay at home together, no school, no play dates, no extracurricular activities or birthday parties, I would have thought that our family would be miserable. We’re a happily on-the-go crew. Plans were things that made us feel str...uctured and productive. The kids loved their activities, and we always had things happily buzzing along. At first when our plans grew fewer and fewer, and we saw less and less people face to face, I waited for the meltdowns, the I’m booooored’s and can we goooooo somewhere’s?? And the fighting and screen time arguments... but they never came. Instead, my tiny humans have bonded more than I’ve ever seen them do. They communicate with each other and share and play together. The imagination and creativity have exploded and they’re always thinking of new things to do and play. Colin and I have also bonded with our kiddos too in a whole new way, and watched them with such full hearts become these amazingly adaptive, resilient beings. Don’t get me wrong, it’s also been hard. This change has been fast, and shocking and extreme for all of us. Our life has been flipped in its head, and the sudden influx of concern for ourselves and others has stirred a lot of emotions. But... I feel like it’s what we needed. What we all needed. Time. Living in the moment. Rediscovering our families. Rediscovering ourselves. Looking inward. Coming together as a community. Discovering life outside of the schedule. I hope you’re doing well out there, and staying safe and healthy. And I also hope you’re also finding your own surprising silver linings in this dark cloud moment in life. Ohhh boy, I have been struggling with this one a bit lately! Being home with the kids full time again had me getting back into some bad habits. Not enough water, eating for comfort, not nutrition, sugar, sugar and more sugar! Ahhh! But the other day I realized, as I was feeling low on energy and kinda grumpy, that #basicgoals are important now more than ever. Mamas, eating healthy, supporting our immune systems, resting, caring for ourselves on a very basic level r...ight now is so crucial! We’re suddenly facing a moment where being healthy and uplifted is the most important things we can do for our own families. And I know it’s harder than ever right now to take time to care for ourselves. I know we’re all just trying to survive the days. So if you can do nothing else, be kind to yourself, and repeat, I am safe, this will pass, I am safe, this will pass We are the thermostats of our homes! If we’re feeling calm, and rested, and uplifted, that energy is going to translate to our little ones. But if we’re feeling panicked and stressed and fearful, guess what? Our littles feel that too.
