Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking

Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking (AOH) is a registered charity providing long-term bilingual support to survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of all ages and backgrounds in a safe and trauma-informed environment. Utilizing harm-reduction approaches to healing and rehabilitation, AOH works with Survivors in Northeastern Ontario on their transition to safe and successful independent living by providing wrap-around and coordinated long-term support serv...ices. Services available include mental health (trauma) and addictions counselling with an Indigenous Social Worker and a Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor, individual case management, virtual Survivor-led life skills sessions, as well as guidance, support, education and counselling to loved ones of survivors and referrals to community agencies. Since 2015, AOH has provided free access to trauma-informed long-term support services to over 275 Survivors and their families. AOH also conducts presentations, workshops and trainings with the goal of increasing awareness of and preventing human trafficking and sexual exploitation in our region.

27 year old Man Charged with Numerous Child Pornography Offences On February 18, 2021 the Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) and Computer Forensics Units assisted by member of our Emergency Response and Intelligence Units executed a Search Warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury. As a result of the investigation, 27 year old, Kodie O’Malley was arrested and charged with the following offences:... Access Child Pornography x10 Possess Child Pornography x11 Distribute Child Pornography x4 He appeared in Bail Court on February 18, 2021 to answer to the charges. The Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. This has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and Ministry of the Attorney General. This week is National Addictions Awareness Week. Common health issues found in human trafficking survivors may be from substance abuse problems or addictions resulting from either being coerced into drug use by their traffickers or by turning to substance abuse to help cope with or mentally escape their trauma. AOH takes a harm reduction approach.... We offer substance abuse counseling and peer support to survivors of human trafficking. This counseling is done by our Founder and Executive Director Cristina Scarpellini who is a Canadian Certified Addictions Counselor registered with the CACCF. Cristina has lived experience with mental health and addictions. If you are a survivor of human trafficking and are struggling with substance abuse, please reach out to us.

Did you know??? Human trafficking is the second-biggest moneymaker for organized crime in Ontario. Over 93 percent of people who are trafficked in Canada live in Canada; they did not come from another country.... 72 percent are under the age of 25, with many being groomed at ages as early as 12 or 13. 66 percent of all human trafficking in Canada occurs in Ontario, even though Ontario only makes up just over one-third of the population of Canada. 60 percent of human trafficking in Canada will involve the Highway 401 corridor.
