Renting your first place and moving out on your own can feel amazing, but it can also seem like an intimating feat, overwhelming and downright confusing. I will be the first to admit, we in the real estate world have some odd abbreviations or sayings, but below I have listed some ( this is a small list) of the abbreviations to help new comers to the rental world. Decoding A Rental Listing... BR- This stands for Bed Rooms ( Ex 2 BR = 2 bedrooms ) BA- This means bathroom ( Ex 1 BA= 1 bathroom) Amenities- means features of the unit, ( granite countertops, swimming pool, Cable Ready- does not mean cable or internet is included, just means it will be easier to have cable hooked up In-Suite - means the items or amenities with in the unit On-Site - means the amenities within the building or property, this can be a games room, common space, laundry room. Utilities Included. This means that utilities like electricity, water, heating, and waste removal are included in your rent. Make sure you know which utilities are included and which, if any, are not. Have you ever come across an abbreviation you are unclear about? There are tons of Pros and Cons with becoming a landlord, some are extremely successful, some hire companies to take care of everything and some just sell and move on. You will face many different types of people and personalities, while dealing with trying to place tenants, deal with vendors, and sometimes insurance agencies so with all that being said, be realistic in your expectations. Be aware that as with any investment, rental property isn't going to produce a large monthly paycheck right away, and picking the wrong property could be a catastrophic mistake.
