My hair It wasn’t that long ago that I was going to quit the salon life. I was doing hair for film and the food was REALLY GOOD lol. I took courses every single year but EVERY SINGLE TIME I increased my prices ( even small, cost of living increases ) I was met with resistance. I even had one person say I can’t afford to take my kids on vacation if I pay your prices like omfg. Maybe skip a fucking haircut then! So ya. I was going to quit. Buuuuut obviously I didn’t. A...nd my clientele is freaking amazing now. ( ya I’m talking about you ) I finally got my own hair done last week. LONG OVERDUE. and 4 1/4 hours later I paid full price. Because I know her lungs hurt from the mask. I know she was paying daycare while I was there. I know her product cost just went up again. I know she has spent mother’s day away at a course. That she paid for herself. I know she doesn’t get paid when she’s sick. I know she pays for her own courses. And tools. I know because Thats been my life for 22 years. The business of doing hair is way harder than any colour class I’ve ever taken. Here’s a great visual of how hairdressers work with dilution. The toner has to sit for a specific amount of time in order for ALL the tones to deposit. For example , if I’m using purple to neutralize yellow, and it’s not diluted enough, the hair will grab TOO MUCH purple and it will need to be washed off BEFORE the proper development time. ( over time ) On the opposite end of the spectrum , if the formula . Is too diluted. The toner won’t fully neutralize the yellow.
