More Remembrance Day scenes today from Esquimalt.

A SPSP tribute to honour the soldiers, sailors, air force personnel and merchant sailers who have given and continue to give for their country. We will remember them.

The blessing of a new hydro pole in Esquimalt this past Sunday. Yes...a hydro pole... Read on: The old electric pole was obviously rotting at the top, and at the bottom. A phone call to BC Hydro established that it was not their pole, but sadly ours, and thus our financial responsibility. I groaned. However, once told that I could paint at free will on OUR pole, I began planning and brainstorming for the things that are the most important to Graham and me, and our family.... I divided the pole into sections, masked off areas and used the same colours as our house to harmonise the pole and house. The gain (a notch in the pole) guided where and in which direction I placed symbols and paintings. Our grandchildren had sections, and our neighbours also. We wanted to have things to represent our backgrounds, hobbies and beliefs. Thus the pole has flags for the United Kingdom, Durham, Yorkshire, USA, Canada and United Nations. It also has St Cuthbert’s cross, car logos, quotes from Winston Churchill and Dr Bonnie Henry. The street side of the pole includes our address. I painted it with wood stains and then gave it three coats of polyurethane to seal, and protect the wood. We were delighted that Gail accepted my request to bless the pole. Unfortunately it was a stormy, wet day but one filled with the good fun of very special times shared by friends and dogs! We toasted the pole with a glass of mead. -Licette and Graham

A note from the Diocesan Administrator Dear Friends. We are pleased to announce that, God willing, Bishop Logan McMenamie will take a brief respite from retirement to ordain the Rev. Matthew Humphrey and the Rev. Gail Rodger to the sacred Order of Priests on September 20, 2020 at 4:30 in the afternoon.... While the ceremony will take place at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, this email is sadly not an invitation to attend in-person. The ordinations will be a small, socially-distanced celebration involving just those essential to the service and a very few invited guests. However, the service will be live-streamed and we hope that you will set aside this time to watch the ordinations and pray with the ordinands. A link to the livestream will be provided prior to the service, and it will possible to revisit the service later in the day. We hope you will book the date and time in your calendars.
