Advantages of taking a scenic route to your destination include, avoiding long holiday tailbacks, stopping to stretch your legs more often, and by far the biggest advantage is discovering quaint little villages and beautiful scenery along the way. http://anitasdrivingacademy.ca/summer-driving-plan-a-sceni/

Who says that your holiday has to start when you reach your destination. Why not start it on your journey and stop for a picnic along the way? Take a few snacks, sandwiches, crisps, drinks and fruit and find a nice spot to stop and have a picnic. Assuming the weather is nice there are many beautiful places in the Toronto to stop and stretch your legs. When you pack the car in a rush you have a tendency to miss things, and to forget where everything is in the car. Take a bit of time, and put things in the glove box that you will need on the journey. Make sure you can easily reach things like CDs, tissues, snacks, map, pillows and warm clothes. This is an essential tip for long car journeys, as no matter how old or new your car is, it could breakdown at any time. Preparing a range of car games that the children can play may delay or at best, prevent the dreaded question asked by every child on a car journey,Are we nearly there yet?. Before heading off on a long adventure you should take a few moments to check the tread and pressure of your car tyres. This really quick check, may save you from breaking down or worse, a crash. During the summer, we all need water to stay active and prevent dehydration. Your car isnt any different, without maintaining fluid levels in your car you may find that it decides to breakdown on you in the middle of nowhere. To keep your car in tip top condition this summer, you should make sure the following fluids are kept topped up: including engine oil, windscreen washer fluid, engine coolant and of course, fuel. http://anitasdrivingacademy.ca/summer-driving-check-your-c/

The key to avoiding stress whilst youre on the road is to plan ahead. Even if you dont end up sticking to the original plan, it is well worth planning a route to take across the country, planning roughly how much you can spend each day and planning activities that you can stop and do along the way. When travelling with children this small amount of time spent planning can save a whole lot of hassle on the journey. High temperatures aggravate existing damage to the rubber. Under-inflation adds to the problem, causing friction and more heat which can prove too much for weak spots, causing punctures and blow-outs. Check tire condition and pressures, adjusting for extra load if appropriate. Check caravan tyres for cracking and renew damaged tyres before use. http://anitasdrivingacademy.ca/summer-tire-flats/

High temperatures can aggravate cooling system problems too. Low coolant level, leaking hoses and broken electric cooling fans can all result in overheating and expensive damage. If the fans broken it will soon become apparent when you meet slow moving traffic and engine temperature soars. Sun glare causes many accidents, particularly under clear skies at dawn or dusk. Keep a clean and unscratched pair of sunglasses handy Avoid lenses which darken in strong sunlight the windscreen filters out UV light so the glasses will change only slowly. Clean the windscreen regularly, inside and out, to remove smears, which will catch sunlight and impair vision. Fresh air, exercise or turning up the radio may help for a short time but are not as effective as: Break a journey over 3 hours with a 20 minute break On longer journeys, take a break every 2 hours or so Frequent short stops (of at least 20 minutes) are better than one long stop Avoid heavy meals and alcohol before driving [ 30 more words. ] http://anitasdrivingacademy.ca/summer-driving-fatigue/

If you have to carry luggage on the roof, use a roof box to reduce drag. Alternatively load luggage on a roof rack as low as possible and wrap tightly in plastic sheeting.
