This is a sad day for Manitoba and all Canadians. Louis Riel, founder of the province of Manitoba and leader of the Metis was executed for treason on this day, November 16, 1885, in Regina, Saskatchewan. "For the Métis, 16 November, the day of Riel’s execution, is a national public commemoration of Riel’s life and the struggles he led. Riel still remains the most famous Métis leader and an important figurehead for Métis people in Western Canada." https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/louis-riel
