I’ve recently signed a petition asking the Canadian federal government to direct their COVID-19 aid package for small businesses away from providing credit, and toward rent relief, labour subsidies and debt deferral. Small businesses are on the front line of the fight against COVID-19 and many of us are being ordered to close to stop the spread of COVID-19 for the common good. If they offer us credit to pay for it, they're effectively making small business owners accept sole ...liability for doing something that helps all of society. If we have to put our businesses on pause, government should be putting their efforts into putting our expenses on pause without burying us under a mountain of debt. The government needs to keep Canadian small businesses intact and ready to restart the economy when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
