The Annapolis Valley Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association donate $1,000 as an appreciation gift to the staff of the Super 8 in Windsor, Nova Scotia after their annual Spring Tune Up. In the picture above, Claudette Hazlett gives the staff of the Super 8 in Windsor, Nova Scotia $1,000 appreciation gift to be shared amongst all the staff. It may sound like a lot but when shared with all the staff it is just a token of our appreciation for the great job they all do there.... Shown in the picture in the front row from left to right are Brian Hazlett, President of the Annapolis Valley Club, Carol Edgar, staff member, Claudette Hazlett, Chairperson of the event, staff members, Carroll Wood, Tracy Sanford, and Wanda McLellan. In the back row from left to right are staff members, Jackie Schlosser, Wally Weir and Manager, Glen Dowling. The Annapolis Valley Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association is centered out of the Berwick area and hold their meetings and monthly music jams at the Windermere Hall. The association has over 200 paid members who are located from Yarmouth to Halifax and is one of the best social groups a person can get. This is a non-profit club and sponsors several different functions throughout the year. We try to put back into the local community the monies raised. In the past, as well as being able to give a tip to staff for doing such exemplary service on our behalf, we have also been fortunate enough to support music programs in schools throughout the Annapolis Valley. We have provided 8 guitars to the West Hants Elementary School, fiddles to the Hantsport Elementary School, special needs musical instruments to schools in the Middleton, Digby area and many other donations to support school music programs. This was the 11th year for holding a Bluegrass and Old Time Music weekend at the Super 8 in Windsor. This event is held the first full weekend of March every year and is a sell out with all rooms completely booked for a weekend of nonstop music. There is normally a show organized on Friday and Saturday evenings where different groups perform for the audience in the conference rooms. After the shows, musicians of all genres are playing everywhere throughout the hotel nonstop. Although it is mostly Bluegrass and Old Time Country music, there are many rooms playing Folk, Rock and Roll, Gospel or whatever you can imagine. Most of the room doors are wedged open and people stroll in and out of the rooms listening to the musicians at will. Even though the hotel is sold out and rooms are booked in advance with musicians that travel from just about anywhere in Atlantic Canada, the general public can attend this event. For the very small sum of $10 the public can buy a bracelet which will allow them to come and go through the hotel and all the activities for the entire weekend.

IT'S BACK ON !! After receiving so many comments about how disappointed our Members and friends were, that our Windermere Bluegrass Jams had been canceled, we have decided to have the November jam anyway. Although Bruce and Pam have previous commitments, Mike Benjamin has generously offered to look after the sound, so away we go. Let's make this a good one so come on out this Sunday 24 Nov. to the Windermere Hall (402 Windermere Rd, Berwick) from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. There ...will be lots of music, tea, coffee, soft drinks, chips and other stuff. We are sorry that we are unable to provide the fantastic lunch you were treated to previously, but I am sure you will enjoy 2 hours of non stop music, laughs and friendship. For those of you that have previously requested AVBA Membership, your cards are ready, so please see me (Rod) to pick them up. Come out, bring instruments, voices, and lots of friends, and let's Get 'er Done. See you there!! P.S Stay tuned for more exciting news coming for December!!

The Annual Fundy Bluegrass weekend at the Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth on April 17th to 19th has been CANCELLED. We are very sorry to have to announce this, but due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, it is a necessary step to protect the health and safety of our Bluegrass family. There is no rush but if you have booked, please call the Rodd Grand at 902 742 2446 to cancel your reservation. I would like to thank Lisa Selig for all the work she has put into this project. It is sad to... have to cancel after people have sunk so much of their their time into organizing an event of this magnitude, but this must be done as a proactive measure. Please do not call Lisa to cancel but call the Hotel as they have are the ones who have your information and they have agreed to cancel it. Please share share share or contact those who may not be on Facebook. Thank You for your understanding. Yours in Bluegrass, Brian A Hazlett
