Important massage to all my clients and referral partners ! When the banks announced payment relief options the other day for mortgage holders, the media did not report the entire story. THIS IS NOT A 6 MONTH PAYMENT HOLIDAY. This program is designed to help people WHO NEED IT to offer options to defer some payments until things get better. Every bank and lender has different options, depending on your need. If you are still working, and earning an income, you probably do no...t NEED this. If you have 3 months of cash sitting in an emergency fund, you probably do not need this. If you don't have a payment due for another 3 weeks, you probably don't need it now. Please, please, please, if you are still working, or are not in dire need, please do not plug up the phone lines of the banks, as they are trying to assist everyone that NEEDS the help. I am asking, if your payment is due 7 days or later, please delay calling, as the immediate focus is on trying to assist people that have payments coming up right away. If you do not NEED help at this very moment, you probably should not be calling and plugging up phone lines. This is the financial equivalent of hoarding toilet paper. DON'T DO IT. Banks and lenders are working extremely hard to get to everyone, and deal with this on a case by case basis. Please be patient, and kind. The person on the other end of the phone is probably in the same state of mind you are right now. Yelling at them, and treating them like crap will not help your situation, it will only make theirs worse. No bank is equipped to deal with every mortgage customer they have ever had in 24 hours - the systems just aren't built that way. For the same reason, stores are not stocked for everyone to buy 3 to 4 months of toilet paper at the same time. I know living in a state of stress, and not knowing is hard. I get that. However, take a deep breath, calm down, and make a plan. Sit down with all your bills, see what is an immediate need, and what can wait. Baby steps. If you make a list, and see when everything is due, you will have a better idea of what needs to be done, and when.
