Just wanted to share...please read!!! "I have a client who lost his wife to Cancer a few years ago. Once she had passed away, he got serious about the Insurance discussions that we had in the past. During our previous discussions around Insurance, he never saw the need for it as he was a Government Employee (Group Coverage) and she was a Stay at Home wife (didn’t feel like he would need to replace her small income). Well, he was laid off from his Government job and quickl...y realized that his wife’s death greatly affected their finances (he needed time off work to care for her in her final stages of life and while grieving). He decided to start his own business, and then decided to at least look at the cost of insurance on himself as he had an Adult son (only child) that he wanted to be able to help if anything should happen to him. I recommended that he take care of his needs first and Insurance his own ability to have an income. With starting his own business, he didn’t qualify for much, if any Disability Insurance. Instead, we looked at Critical Illness Insurance with Loss of Independent Existence and Return of Premium (Age 56 at the time of policy purchase - not cheap - $318.03/month) pitched it to him as forced savings (client is terrible with money management on his own), but with a bonus of a lump sum payout if he was Critically Ill. With a little reluctance on his part, we proceeded with an application. It was approved and he decided to take my advice on having this Insurance. Good thing he did. I just had a phone call from him today. He is in the hospital in Victoria, waiting for Open Heart Surgery following a Heart Attack. He has since moved on from his self-employed venture to a Casual on-call position in Janitorial work. He has been getting enough work to make sure that he can pay his bills, just burnt through his last little bit of unlocked RRSP’s to enjoy travelling (despite my recommendation), but won’t be able to work for months now, and has no Disability Insurance! He has paid $6996.66 into his Policy and is now filing his claim for $50,000 to help support him during his time of recovery. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me when we were chatting on the phone and he was choking back the tears, thanking me for having his back when recommending this product. I can sleep tonight knowing he isn’t going to lose his home because of a Heart Attack, which he will likely recover just fine from!"

Testimonial on how much Insurance can really help you...Please talk to your advisor about it & make it part of your Financial Plan. "When critical illness insurance was recommended to me as part a full financial plan, I never imagined that less than 18 months later (just before my 40th birthday), I would be one of the statistics we were discussing. My advisor was so helpful and supportive she coordinated everything with the insurance company, so I had one less thing to worr...y about while I was focused on all my medical appointments. Having my doctor fill out the forms provided was easy, as she was already doing paperwork for my absence from work. It was definitely a bright spot during my treatment when I received the call that my claim was approved. Knowing that there was an extra cushion of money allowed me to concentrate on my healing, and not worry about the cost whether that was an extra round of acupuncture, choosing organic foods, or a much needed getaway weekend. Having the extra insurance truly gave me comfort throughout my treatment, and the unexpected donation they made to the cancer foundation gave me hope for the future." ~Jessica L.
