Our newest fine bone china collection has arrived: this stunning set is appropriately titled Arabella Blue- after Arabella Churchill, daughter of Sir Winston Churchill. "Arabella" in Latin means "to yield to prayer", which suited Churchill perfectly, as she embraced Buddhism and its values. She spent her life as a philanthropist, and we hope her collection embodies her inner- and outer, beauty. Come by and see it in person- the pictures really can't do this collection justice. #annvita #annvitatearoom #annvitatoronto #finebonechina #hudsonandmiddleton #arabellablue #newrelease

Rooibos Appears to match- and potentially best- the health benefits claimed for other teas. The beverage is said to have 50% more antioxidants than are found in green tea. Antioxidants are the organic compounds believed to scavenge for and neutralize "free radicals- the toxic by-product of natural biological processes that can damage cells and promote cancer. The tea is made from Aspalathus Linearis, an indigenous shrub that grows only in the mountain region close to the Cap...e of Good Hope. Rooibos was discovered by the local inhabitants a long time ago, but commercially traded only since 1904. The health benefits of Rooibos are bound to make it a favourite; rich in antioxidants, rich in vitamin C, caffeine-free, and low in tannins- the residue in teas that can sometimes cause digestive problems. The leaves are used to make herbal teas called Rooibos or bush tea; the plant being sometimes referred to as the red bush. It has been popular in South Africa for generations, and is starting to gain popularity globally as well. Generally leaves are oxidized (also called fermentation in common tea processing terminology), which produces the distinctive reddish-brown of rooibos and enhances the flavour. Sweetened with milk and sugar, or lemon and honey in South Africa. As a fresh leaf, rooibos has a high content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Rooibos contains polyphenols including flavonols, flavones, flavanones, dihydrochalcones, aspalathin, and nothofagin. The processed leaves also contain benzoic and cinnamic acids. Rooibos grades are largely related to the percentage needle or leaf to stem content in the mix; a higher leave content results in a darker liquid with richer flavour and less dusty aftertaste. The major hurdle in growing rooibos commercially- initially, was that farmers could not germinate the rooibos seeds- which were hard to find and impossible to germinate commercially. At a time, Rooibos seeds were the most expensive vegetable seed in the world, as farmers rushed to plant rooibos when it first became available. #annvita #annvitatoronto #annvitatearoom #rooibostea #redrooibos #greenrooibos #nowyouknow #teabutnottechnically #caffeinefree

We have Indian Masala Chai; literally meaning mixed spice tea (spiced similarly to "Iranian Tea") that has a million unique spice combinations depending on where you travel, as it is enjoyed by a number of cultures. Key spices usually include green cardamom pods, ginger, black pepper, star anise, cloves, cinnamon, and vanilla. It's an off-menu tea and helps like no other tea to warm up after a cold winter day. #annvita #annvitatoronto #annvitatearoom #warmup #masalachai #iraniantea #chai #acupofteasolveseverything #teaforlife #crossingcultures #notsodifferent

Black Tea Black tea leaves contain thousands of bioactive compounds such polyphenols, amino acids, volatile compounds- responsible for flavours and aromas, as well as trace amounts of many vitamins and minerals. Polyphenols are plant-based compounds that exhibit strong anti-oxidant properties that reduce the risk of cancer development, slow the natural aging process and prevent cellular damage by eliminating free radicals within the body. Of polyphenols, flavonoids likely in...fluence and improve our heart health, although it's not determined if it's through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and/or vasodilatory properties. Flavonoids and tannins in tea are largely responsible for its astringency. Tea is a good source of fluoride- which is healthy in smalls amounts, and helps to prevent tooth decay. There is an inverse correlative relationship between the amount of tea an individual drinks, and the number of cavities that they have: more tea means less trips to the dentist! Black tea drinkers also report improved cognitive performance on objective attention tests and a higher self-reported alertness compared to a placebo. It also outperforms coffee, suggesting that other components within tea other than caffeine also have acute affects on cognitive function. Anyone who smokes should definitely drink black tea, as polyphenols that are specific to black tea have been suggested to prevent lung cancer from tobacco, by scientific studies. #nowyouknow #blacktea #smartypants #healthyandtasty #teaforme #teaisbetterthancoffee #acupofteaisfineforme #annvitatearoom #annvitatoronto #tastesgoodandgoodforyou #cancerfighter #science #eastaheadofwest

Many people believe that Green Tea is the healthiest tea, and potentially the healthiest drink that you can drink. Green tea’s biggest benefit is linked to it’s catechin content, which are antioxidants that fight and may even prevent cell damage. The oxidizing of black and oolong teas cause the catechin content to decrease the further a tea leaf is oxidized. Green tea is an unoxidized tea (in reality, about 15% oxidized as the process begins slowly after the leaves are plucke...d) that is therefore rich in catechins. Green tea also has minute amounts of minerals and vitamins that are beneficial to health, again, the levels present in green tea are higher than in black tea, as the oxidation process of blackening tea leaves destroys minerals and vitamins, as well as denaturing proteins. It may be a bad idea to put milk in your green tea, as it may reduce the amount of antioxidants available in the tea, as well as inhibiting absorption. Adding vitamin C, or lemon to green tea, enhances the absorption of catechins. Nutrient levels in green teas vary; the higher quality teas and leaves having a higher mineral and nutritive value to them. Lower quality green teas may also contain excessive levels of fluoride- which is present naturally in tea leaves, and at lower levels improves oral and dental health. However, at higher levels, it is toxic, and thus, avid green-tea drinkers should choose to invest in higher quality teas. Come do yourself and your health a favour and indulge in a cup of high-quality green tea, in any of the delicious shown flavours! #annvitatearoom #annvitatoronto #greenteaforme #catechins #antioxidant #anticancer #hearthealthy #mentalalertness #synergy #teaovercoffee #sciencesays #sustainedenergy #nowyouknow

Tea leaves are a delicate, mysterious, and ancient product that was originally brewed and drunk for its medicinal properties. Ask any of our servers and they can share their enthusiasm for our high-quality tea selection, and- hopefully, inspire you to immerse yourself in the amazing world of teas! We respect the tea leaf, and we expect ...the same from our guests. We offer refills on our Herbal Tea Selection and our highest quality teas from Annvita's own Private Exclusive Gardens! The reason we don't offer refills on our other teas is because after the first brew, most teas lose half of their caffeine, mineral, polyphenol, catechin, and amino acid content; you are left with a weak and bitter cup of tannins. Our teas from our exclusive gardens tell a different story with each pot, so choose one of these for your Afternoon Tea if you enjoy these subtle changes. However, if what you are craving is something outside of that menu, and you want another pot- no, we won't top up your pot with bitter tea tannin water, but we will be happy to grab you another tea of the same type for 50% off!
