I've spent the last several days drawing this piece, (About 28 hours ). I'm creating a background for an art piece that's going to have the death head hawk mot...h in it. I originally wanted to find a tarot card that I liked for this project, but none spoken to me. So I decided to draw my own tarot card for death. What do you think? See more

Here are 3 styles we've created thus far for the Death Head Hawk Moths. I have more styles that I'm creating. We will be attending the Lethbridge Hand Made mark...et again on June 26. @lethbridgehandmademarket1 is an awesome show and we would love to see you again there. Then from July 1 to July 11, we will be in Grande Prarie attending the farmers market selling our art there. So people of GP and surrounding areas, please come on by and get your pieces that you wanted for so long. It'll be our first time there serving that part of Alberta. I'm glad to say that these will be available at the show in Lethbridge in less than 10 days! But if you want one but can't attend the shows then DM me and I can sell them to you privately. #deathheadmoth , #deadhead , #entomologyartist , #moths , #moth , #silenceofthelambs , #clarice , #insects, #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

As I was about to feed my spiders, I noticed my huge salmon bird eating tarantula moulted. So I delayed the feeding and removed the pieces of the moult and bega...n to reassemble is while stuffing the pieces with toilet paper. Now the moult is fully taxidermied and I will let it dry. Have a look at the fresh new skin she is showing off in the video. The moult is 18 cm (7inches) in legspan which means she is bigger than that. I have tried really hard to make the moult look like the real spider. This the result. For those that want to know the Latin name, it's Lasiodora parahybana which lives in the Amazon jungle in Brazil.

These Death Head Hawk Moths are all dried and ready for the next step before framing. It's been a few years since I got new stock. My friend in Indonesia came t...hrough for me just in time for our next show which is in a little over 2 weeks time. We will be attending the Lethbridge Hand Made market again on June 26. @lethbridgehandmademarket1 is an awesome show and we would love to see you again there. I'm glad to say that these will be available at the show in Lethbridge in 2 weeks. What do you guys think of this type of mounting them with their legs showing and their proboscises stretched out? Do you like it better than not having any legs or proboscises showing? Please leave me feedback in the comments section. These are the largest of all the 4 death head species. It's is Acherontia lachesis and these are from Indonesia. #deathheadmoth , #deadhead , #entomologyartist , #moths , #moth , #silenceofthelambs , #clarice , #insects, #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

This year has been very impressive in the populations of butterflies I've seen thus far. In the last 2 days alone we have seen literally thousands upon thousand...s of the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail butterflies flying all around the Calgary area and the foothills of Alberta. There were 7 areas where we saw dozens of them mud puddling drinking the minerals from the moist earth. It was magical to see plumes of butterflies flying around my kids. It was like a dream. They are very fast and swift flyers and the vast majority of them were unreachable. I took the kids out today to the foothills and we all went running around in the hot sun. What a fun day. I was able to the kids their host plant and we saw females depositing egss on the branches as they flew by. It was a great day of learning, fun, family time and being out in nature. Now I will be burning the midnight oil cataloging, recording the data and grading today's collection. On each envelope I put the exact location, Date and quality of the specimen along with the scientific name so it's complete. In this pic you can see the Pterorous canadensis and Papilio zelicaon that I'm working on. There were many other species we found today too but this is what I'm currently working on.

Here is a fully articulated skeleton of the Green Tree Pit Viper or White Lipped Pit Viper (Trimeresurus albolabris insularis). The species has a huge range whe...re they are found from India to Indonesia. This subspecies is from East Java, Indonesia. It's a venomous species and has been known to be fatal to humans. The second pic is where you can see the fangs clearly. Articulating snake skeletons is very time consuming and tedious. Making this piece, a long time in the making. My goal is to have another one completed for the @lethbridgehandmademarket Which we will be attending on June 26. I have been working on 4 of these skeletons but this one I completed first. Let's see how well I manage my time.

OK guys, I need your opinion. Please vote by putting your selection in the notes section. I have 3 versions that look good for me to finish this custom piece . ...But I like them all and can't decide which way to proceed. I would like to know which way is most esthetically appealing to your eye. Based on the one that gets most votes that'll be the one I recommend to the client to proceed with. Thank you in advance for your assistance. For those who are curious which species this is, it is Xixutherus lunicolis microcerus male and female.. This beast was collected in 1998 from Buru Island in Indonesia. #cerambycidae , #insects , #entomologyartist , #beetle , #beetles , #beetlejuice , #giantbeetle #collection , #coleoptera , #beast , #vote , #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #horroart , #horrorartwork , #custommade

I brought my son to the studio today. He was keen to pin the bumble bees and grasshopper he had collected on our trip to Drumheller, Alberta, Canada last Sunday.... He did such a great job. I'm so proud of him. He's already so professional and he's only 11 years old! This is what happens when he's left to his own devices

These next specimens I have spread with their proboscis out so that we can see the length some them can reach. Here are the names of the species in these pics: ...Pachylia ficus male and female; Eumorpha anchemolus; Manduca leucospila; Cocytius anteus medor; Pseudosphinx tetrio; Manduca lichenea; and Eumorpha satellite licaon All are from Huanuco, Peru. If any of you moth people out there disagrees with my identification, please feel free to correct me and provide the author of the text you are using to correct me.

As promised, here are some of the next moths I've identified. Here are the names I've discovered thus far: Adhemarius palmeri;... Isognathus swainsoni; Protambulyx ockendeni; Xylophanes chiron nechus (brown form) ; Erinnyis oenotrus; Erinnyis ello ello; Xylophanes titana pair and Xylophanes porcus continentalis All are from Huanuco, Peru. If any of you moth people out there disagrees with my identification, please feel free to correct me and provide the author of the text you are using to correct me. I'm not 100% confident that I have accurately got the classification correct. But this is the result of my best efforts.

So the hawk moths are dried and I've spent the whole day while it rains outside identifying and reading about these amazing little creatures. The primary text I...'ve been using is shown in the second image. The work was first published in 1986 and I was able to identify this Sphingidae moth as Eumorpha phorbas as it was found in Huanuco, Peru. If any of you moth people out there disagrees with my identification, please feel free to correct me and provide the author of the text you are using to correct me. In the coming days, I'll post a new moth that I've identified. #classification , #insects , #entomologyartist , #moths , #moth , #hawkmoth , #butterfly, #collection , #lepidoptera , #hawkmoths , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

I have decided to frame up the male and female Batocera lamondi together in a frame. Normally I frame beetles individually but this time I thought this duo look...ed good together. What do you think? These specimens were collected from Malaita Island of the Solomon Islands back in 2003. #batocera , #insects , #entomologyartist , #longhorn , #beetle , #beetles , #butterfly, #coleoptera , #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

We just got more of these in from our rancher in Peru . They are from the Upper Huallaga Valley. I think I like the underside more of this leopard patterned ...butterfly. What about you? The Latin name for this is Baeotus baeotus. #nymphalidae , #rarity , #entomologyartist , #psychedlic , #moth , #butterflies , #butterfly , #insects, #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

With respect to a previous post where I showed the last specimen and left it undescribed, there was a rich debate as to what it could be. Some argued that it is... subspecies flavescens while others called it detaani and yet some asked to see the underside to see if it had yellow legs. And only one argued it was subspecies borchi. I have taken pics of various paradisea that have been discussed and some others for reference purposes. It should be noted that both subspecies chrysanthemum and flavescens have yellow legs. And it's should be noted that subspecies detaani = flavescens. After reading what Matsuka has said about the paradisea in the Jayapura area, he calls the last specimen shown in these pics subspecies borchi. Based on photographs and this analysis would you all agree this is subspecies borchi? Based on the markings and collection data, I Cannot agree with this subspecies being chrysanthemum or flavescens. Am I mistaken in my analysis? I'm also equally happy leaving it as undescribed.

Here is a specimen I Inherited back when I was a young man from the estate of a collector who had passed on. The name of this beauty is Tienopalpus imperialis b...ehludini from Er Lang Shan area in the Sichuan Province in China . The fuscus complex is highly variable and confusing. Here are two subspecies of Papilio fuscus. The subspecies cilix from Bougainville is so different from the ...subspecies gyrei from its close neighbour from Malaita Island, in the Solomon Islands. There is also yet another separate and distinct subspecies that flies in PNG called hasterti. I make no claim that I know anything meaningful about this complex other than I they are very interesting for me to try to separate one group from another. The female cilix is huge. It's the same as most Ornithoptera males! #swallowtail , #rarity , #entomologyartist , #swallowtailbutterfly , #papilionidae , #butterflies , #butterfly , #insects, #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit

Today is a chill day. Filled a couple of orders in the morning and now I'm grading the quality of this new stock of these Ornithoptera priamus urvillinianus f. ...flavomaculata. These were bred on a farm we started way back in 2012 in Bana District in South Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. It's time consuming but it's relaxing while listening some tunes. #ornithoptera , #insects , #entomologyartist , #birdwing , #butterflies, #swallowtail , #butterfly, #insects, #lepidoptera , #photography , #horrorartwork, #goth, #witchcraft, #witchythings, #witchyvibes, #witch, #macabreart, #occult, #occultart, #macrophotography , #occultart , #deadthings, #deadthingslastforever, #creepyshit
