Hello everyone, On behalf of the AGSA Racial Justice Working Group, I am thrilled to share with you all the details of the first event in our series Anthropology and Racial Justice. On November 3rd, 2021 at 6 pm EST Justin Wright will be facilitating a workshop entitled Thinking Through Race with Ethnographic Poetry. ... The aim of this workshop will be to use poetry as a way for us all to begin or continue exploring our own positionalities within anthropology as well as explore how race comes up and affects our individual research and anthropological practices. Justin Wright is a sociocultural anthropologist, performance studies scholar, theater artist, and performance poet, as well as the current Poet-In-Residence at SAPIENS Magazine. In both their scholarly and artistic pursuits, Wright is concerned with notions of national and cultural memories, transgenerational traumas, Black grief, and Black and Black-queer identity-making. Their work seeks to understand how Black people might craft from that pain, grief, and trauma something breathtakingly beautifuland from that beauty, freedom and liberation. Wright holds an M.A. in theater and performance studies from Washington University in St. Louis and is currently a Ph.D. student in anthropology at American University. Due to limited participation capacity, the RJWG is opening up registration to self-identified BIPOC Undergrads, Grads, and Faculty today, October 5th. Registration will open for the entire department on October 12th. To register, please follow this link: https://mcgill.zoom.us//tZAocu6uqDspGtNd_8K-VX_Ww9YnK-Sopz Welcome! McGill's Senate Steering Committee will be voting on this soon. Please share and sign with fellow students if you believe that an extended S/U option would be a more inclusive policy during this pandemic and the stress it has, directly and indirectly, caused so many of us. Your voice matters, showing solidarity with your fellow students is of the utmost importance at this time and we encourage you to consider the implication of this policy not just for you, but for the diverse group of people who make up the McGill student body https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSdckfpt1lsEox_5M/viewform
