DISCOVERING ISRAEL'S DAYAN WOMEN A creative and curatorial journey with Rhonda Spivak. The exhibit of paintings by Rhonda Spivak focuses on the peace activism o...f three generations of Israeli women from the famous General Moshe Dayan Family. The exhibit, which includes remarkable artifacts from members of the Dayan family exploring of Arab-Jewish dialogue, co-existence and reconciliation, will take place at the MHC Gallery, 600 Shaftesbury Blvd. (south of the corner of Grant Ave. and Shaftesbury, Canadian Mennonite University south campus), from May 8-June 20, 2020. Spivak's paintings with explanatory text will educate viewers about three generations of Dayan women who have dedicated their lives to pursuing peace and co-existence with their Arab/Palestinian neighbors. Yael Dayan, the daughter of the famous General Moshe Dayan, became the first Israeli Parliamentarian to meet Yasser Arafat in search of peace. Ruth Dayan, Moshe Dayan's first wife and the mother of his three children, is a peace activist who formed a remarkable friendship with Raymonda Tawil, the mother of Suha Arafat, maintained despite the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Rachel Schwarz, Ruth Dayan's mother ran the first Arab-Jewish playground during the time of the British Mandate. The exhibit focuses on the Dayan women and their desire for peace and reconciliation. They are peacemakers and bridge-builders between communities (ie Arab and Jew, Israeli and Palestinian).
