The first 3 strides, or Quick Starts, do have to be fast but they have to be big enough so you are out front first on the first or second Stride and starting to separate by stride three. Simply moving your feet fast in a short space is about as damaging as a boxer throwing lightening fast punches but with no power. No damage is inflicted. While the fast feet method will have a player do three strides in three feet, Antoine Skating players do the first three strides in 12 fee...t. With that comparison which do think will win the race to the puck? Or even more important, who do you think will win inside position? The focus needs to be not on fast feet but how fast the player goes from point A to point B, and even more importantly how fast the player gets away from point A. Even if the player isn’t the fastest skater, if they are able to get out front first they will win inside position and will win the race to the puck. Especially when most races to the puck are around 20 to 30 feet. Make sure you are Out Front First. See more
