Did you get an alert about your email address being removed from your CRA My Account? These accounts were not impacted by a cyber attack at the CRA. An intern...al analysis revealed evidence that some account credentials (i.e. user IDs and passwords) may have been compromised, and may be available for use by unauthorized individuals. These credentials were not obtained as a result of a breach of CRA’s systems, but rather, through a variety of means by sources external to the CRA. As a precautionary security measure and to prevent unauthorized access to these accounts, we took swift action to lock the accounts and are in the process of contacting the legitimate account holders to unlock their accounts. CRA has announced some extensions to various tax deadlines and other relief

CRA has extended corporate tax and trust return filing deadlines. Any tax returns due normally in June, July or August are deferred to September 1st. Balances due are also extended to September 1st.

The CRA has provided much needed clarity regarding the filing deadline for 2019 personal income tax returns. As long as your personal income tax return has been filed by September 1st, there will be no late-filing penalty. It is still recommended that you file before then.
