Bill 207: Following is a copy of an email that I sent to Kaycee Madu, MLA for Edmonton SW: "Dear Mr. Madu: Does Bill 207 give health care professionals the right to refuse any service to which they object (eg. to assist in blood transfusions in an emergency department because blood transfusions are against their religious beliefs)?... It is my understanding that Bill 207 would permit this type of life threatening consequence. It also is my understanding that the Premier will allow a free vote on this matter. I ask that you, as my MLA speak and vote against Bill 207. It is a dangerous proposal. Thank you, Don Paradis" Today, I got a reply from his Constituency Manager. Most of the reply dealt with procedural issues. The last paragraph however was encouraging (i hope). It stated: "Mr. Madu will provide his position after all of the debate and discussions have occurred and all of the information regarding the Bill has been provided. Mr. Madu will of course consider how his constituents want him to vote on their behalf. We appreciate you writing our office." If you have an opinion on Bill 207 and live in EdmSW, I encourage you to write Mr Madu so he can "consider how his constituents want him to vote on their behalf."

Please be advised that our AGM, previously announced for June 4th is being postponed. Why? Our Constitution is in conflict with Alberta's Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act. Schedule A of our Constitution states that a CA AGM has to be held within 13 months of the previous AGM. Our last AGM was on 15May2018, so I understood that our 2019 AGM must be held before 15June 2019. However, Elections Alberta rules require that all CAs 'go dark' on February 1st of th...e Election Year and do not become active again until 2 months after election day, which in this case is June 16th. This means that during this time period, CAs are prohibited from taking on anything but basic operations. AGMs are not considered basic operations in the eyes of Elections Alberta. We have been informed that the Party's Provincial Board will be reviewing this conflict at its June Meeting. A new date for our 2019 AGM will be announced after we receive clarification from the Provincial Board. Thank you for your patience.

Good news and opportunity in the Bad news. We didn't win in Edmonton-South West and we no longer have any MLAs representing the Alberta Party. But we did make progress and we have momentum. In EdmSW, we increased our total vote from 2015 by about 500%, making Edm SW the 3rd highest Alberta Party vote count in Edmonton. We earned ~11% of votes cast (vs ~9% for the provincial average). We worked hard, with limited resources, and we ran an ethical, positive campaign.... Now, we need to start preparing for 2023. That begins with building an even stronger Constituency Association Board and Executive. Our 2019 AGM will be held in the next few months. Start thinking now about how you can contribute with your energy, ideas and time. We look forward to hearing from progressive Albertans who want to continue building a balanced sensible Alberta Party in Edmonton-South West.
