Huge craving for these lately!! New recipe for protein squares adapted from HIGH Fitness EMILY Nelson and I can’t wait to share them with you!! Also thank you to my lovely Janin Bork Janin for always making sure my pantry is stocked with only the best honey for my baking!!! Xoxo Janin Bork HIGH Fitness protein #apexfitness_shpk #cleantreats ... As promised, the recipe for the yummy protein energy bites! Best enjoyed out of the freezer 2 cups natural PB 1 &1/4 cup honey (I used slightly less and it was wonderful) - mix 2 ingredients,warm up and stir! 2 CUPS (not scoops) protein powder of your choice. I use my fave HIGH Fitness either chocolate or vanilla or a mix!!! 1/4 cup chia seeds coconut (I free poured from the bag) about 1/4 cup? Push into this awesome epicure pan or regular pan and let harden in fridge or freezer. Try not to eat it all in one sitting! Thanks HIGH Fitness EMILY Nelson for this recipe! #highfitnessprotein

Love love LOVE this shot @highfitgirls snuck of me today! It moved me to tears. Could be all the emotions that come with this arm track, but simply the best won by a landslide and is the most requested @high.fitness song. Thank you @dancerleslie for this gem, it was the perfect finish for the last class of 2020! Thank you to my @apexfit_shpk community. It’s always so humbling to expand the screen and see just how many of you keep showing up. I shudder when I think of where... I could be without this group. To my #highfitnessambassadors you have been there by my side while we all navigated a tricky year. You give me hope, laughter and make my heart so full. You are exactly what I didn’t know I needed. @highfitgirls @karacirillo @shareenbkr @highfitmarie teamwork makes the dream work and I am blessed beyond belief to have taught alongside you. Trainer Tip Tuesday Ambassador: Mac Carvalho @mactiv8 Feeling AB-solutely fABulous During AB Tracks ... Ab Tracks; we hate to love them and we love to hate them. But are you executing the ab tracks with proper form & technique? By the time we get to the Ab track in a HIGH Fitness class, you are fatigued. But if you perform the Ab tracks effectively and with efficiency, you will be shaking to your core and a whole lot more! Here are some tips & tricks to help you maintain your stability while we increase your mobility during Ab tracks! SET UP FOR SUCCESS In a HIGH Fitness Ab Track, you’re often going to be set up in a wide squat. Some tips to keep in mind: 1. Take your feet wider than hip with apart and turn out your toes to the corners of the room. 2. Maintain neutral spine, bend your knees, weight in your heels, stack joint over joint and upper body strong & stable. 3. Imagine your lower body as if it was cemented down to the floor and it’s not going anywhere. This way, when we do lateral flexion, torso rotation, etc. your lower body isn’t going along for the ride. Aka pelvic floor activation! PLANKS A plank is an isometric exercise in prone position that targets every muscle in your body. They are often found in HIGH Fitness Ab Tracks as well as standing exercises. The way we set up a plank is crucial for maintaining form & technique. 1. Stack joint over joint (wrist, elbow, shoulder in alignment) keeping your body in one straight line. 2. Gaze slightly past the fingers 3. Navel draws towards your spine with a slight tip of your tailbone. If you experience joint issues, or simply can’t get down to the floor; stay standing & focus on drawing your knees to chest doing a standing crunch. By the time the Ab track comes around, you’re almost at the finish line of completion! I carry this with me to my classes as well. As we get ready to head in to a new year, I challenge you to do the same! BE LOVE: in all arenas! You have made time to show up-- whether that’s in person or virtually, you are here! Show yourself gratitude for your healthy, strong, beautiful body. Give yourself grace in the areas that are hard or challenging, and let that be an opportunity for you to learn. Recognize something that you accomplish or do well in each class. Those little things matter. And remind yourself that you are worth it. Because one thing is for certain, you are SO worth it! That love starts within and once it’s flowing through your veins, it radiates outward and it is magic! BE FREE: chances are, this is a very small sliver of your day dedicated to just you. So have fun, let loose, and enjoy yourself! My very favorite classes have been the ones full of laughter and people’s authenticity added to the songs. Let those endorphins take over and do your thang! This ripple effect is almost tangible - try it out and watch this feed right into your neighbor's soul! This is your hour to BE YOU! Add this to loving yourself and things are getting good! BE THE GOOD: to yourself, to strangers, to everyone! You never know what the person next to you is going through so why not be that bright spot in their day? Whether that’s a simple hello, or taking the time to get to know them - it matters! There is something incredibly unique about our High Fitness family and that is our #commUNITY! We are all better together and we should be lifting each other Higher! So, love on the humans around you. There’s never enough of it, and there’s always room for more of it! Whether you’re a seasoned WOOT WOOT-er or contemplating if that’s the life for you WOOT WOOT-ing is a great way to energize your classes and your body alike. Here are three reasons why giving a little WOOT WOOT can make your HIGH experience that much better! 1. Cheer on yourself and others - Add some PEP in your step and CHEER on your fellow HIGH friends. Hollering a WOOT WOOT during class lifts your spirits HIGHer, rallies the team to keep pushing and generates an energy you can feel! 2. Connect - there’s no doubt that the WOOT WOOT call (and answers) add a little je ne sais quoi to your class. Why? When someone answers your WOOT WOOT you know you’re not alone. You can feel that instant connection, so take time after class to introduce yourself to your fellow WOOT WOOT-er! 3. Regulate your breathing - if it wasn’t enough to get that team cheer going and make some new friends, how about getting that breathing in check!? To prepare for a WOOT WOOT take in a juice breath, then let it all out with that magical sound! Sending out a WOOT WOOT resets your breath to get some fresh, clean air into those lungs. Inhale, WOOT WOOT, repeat! One picture. 2 angles. A thousand feelings. At first glance, you might look at this picture and think... another shameless selfie but of you swipe left and z...oom in on those eyes, they’ll tell ya a different story. Here in (most places) of Alberta, we are in lockdown. 2 things that directly affect my family are shutdown (group fitness and kids sports) aka my livelihood and my boys hockey. Since March, I’ve lost my job with the Sports performance and Sports for Life program in the schools, I’ve cut my classes back by 50% (double the work for half the money), lost my casual position as a dental assistant, and now my kids have lost their hockey, games, practices and friendships. This is NOT to take away from the current situation. Our healthcare workers are warriors and I love and appreciate them all, and we need to find a solution. But through these eyes are sleepless nights, worry, stress and anxiety. Yes I am happy and positive 99% of the time but I have been riding the struggle bus and I’m here to tell you what helped me today. @amberzenith @high.fitness @highfitnessemily have been putting on corporate live stream classes since March of 2020. In a world where we can feel so alone, today and many other days I felt a connection. To my gal pal Ambassador @highfitnesslauren. To @amberzenith And to 400 other people who tuned in. It reminded me that even though this world is so broken right now, there is a release through movement and community @hawcofitness (thanks you for this). This might not be what your looking for. But what if it’s what you need? Even as an instructor and ambassador for @high.fitness , you better believe I will be signing up for the livestream #highfitnessapp that is coming November 30! I love being outside with my family! Going to the pool, hiking, and biking are some of our favorite activities. Favorite Vacation Destination: I don't think I've ever visited anywhere more beautiful than Alaska! The scenery is breathtaking and the weather ain't so bad either. Class Preparation Tactics: Once I make my playlist, I run through it and will quickly review the instructional and full choreography videos along with the assets so my head is in the game, I've got the choreo down pat, and I can just focus on the energy and people in class!! Pre Workout Snack: powerballs, a banana + PB, or oatmeal Recovery Ritual: yoga, foam-rolling, and stretching. Favorite Shoes for HIGH: I'm loving the adidas ultraboost right now! Favorite Track: I have way too many! Some of my current favs are Levitating, Ice Cream, and Ugly Heart. Tip for Instructors: Always bring your best! Whether you're teaching virtually, to a single person, or crowd of 75, always give 110% effort. Never stop trying to be the best you can become! Tip for Participants: Leave your worries at the door!
