This little cutie only wanted to be held like this while we were doing some diagnostics on her! She was the cutest little nugget and wouldn’t mind having her everyday with us for cuddles!! #yyc #vettechlife #vet #alpinepethospital #clinic #dogs #puppy
This is amazing news!!
Did you know that it typically only takes 48 hours for a tick to transmit diseases to your pets? And that they are active above 4 C? This is why it is so important to use preventatives during tick season (April-October usually), and to check over your pets regularly. If you do happen to find a tick, bring it to any vet clinic so that it may be sent to the Gov’t of AB to be tested for Lyme disease. ... If you your pet needs parasite prevention, give our clinic a call!
High risk air quality affects pets, too. In particular, animals with known respiratory illness such as asthma or heart conditions, those with weakened immune sy...stems ,senior pets and animals with short noses and flat faces (Pugs, Bulldogs, Persian cats etc) are most prone to lung and eye irritation caused by current weather conditions, but even healthy pets can be affected. Environment Canada has warned the general public of the health risks associated with the hazy smoky air and this warning should extend to our animals too. Suggestions: If you have an outdoor cat, keep him indoors temporarily until conditions improve. Keep potty breaks short. Avoid exercising pets outdoors- consider indoor fetch or tug of war games. If you smoke, do not do it near your pet. Second hand smoke is bad under normal circumstances but worse during air quality advisories. See more

Let's keep our furr kids safe!
With the recent hot weather, it's good to be very aware when travelling with your pet and the dangers that can arise.
There's a new tapeworm in town. This rare and potentially fatal parasite is nothing to tread lightly about as it is transmissible to humans. If you frequent dog parks, or reside in other high risk areas like a farm or acreage, the frequency of deworming should be increased to ensure proper coverage. Prevention is key! Let us help you ensure your pet (and you!) is protected. Please call us for more information or for a prescription of dewormer for your pet. Reduce your pet's stress in emergencies In an emergency situation, you and your pet may need to evacuate with little to no notice and relocate to a temporary home. Let these tips help ease the transition for your pets when being transported and relocated: ** Pack a kit for your pet and their supplies ahead of time... ** In your new location, designate a 'pet' room or space with all their 'personal' belongings. ** When commuting to your new location with your pet, secure your pet safely in your vehicle **Stick to routines as much as you can ** Do a walk through of your new place, make sure your pet can not escape into walls or outside ** Ensure your pet has proper ID and is microchipped See more
Keep your pets comfortable and safe! We have some very very high temperatures coming our way Calgary and the animals feel it even more! They are not able to cool down in the same manner that humans do and it is crucial to keep them indoors in a safe environment out of the sun! Even if outside but in the shade, that is not enough to keep cool/cool down. It is especially hard to exercise those active breeds, so please think about getting up a little earlier each morning and stimulate your pet while the temperatures aren't as extreme. The risk just isn't worth it.
We are so proud of our lovely patient Cashmere - Way to go!

Obie proves that it's never to late to start and conquer weight loss! Excess weight is accompanied by numerous health concerns, that can easily be prevented. Getting your pets weight under control can lead to a happier and healthier life! Tips for weight control/loss: - Change food to a weight loss formula - Portion control. Split daily ration into 2-3 meals/day. Strictly measure each meal according to the recommended daily feeding guide for your pet - Cut out treats!!!! You ...are wasting your money on weight loss food if you feed numerous treats and go over your pet's daily caloric intake. If you must give treats; keep it to vegetables, low calorie treats, OR! take X amount of kibble from your pet's daily ration and put in baggie/designated treat jar for the day. - Exercise. Everything counts! If your pet is overweight, he/she may not be as willing, so proper judgement is required, especially if arthritis comes into play. However if your pet is willing, an extra 5min/day goes a long way - Bowl placement. Make them work for it. Placing the bowl in an area that they may have to walk a few extra feet to get to - Scattering the food, spreading it across the floor of a room, extra steps = increased success! **Arthritis is just as common as packing a few extra pounds and can cause a great deal of discomfort. Adding a Glucosamine supplement to your pet's routine will significantly improve their comfort, and in combination with weight loss, will have their energy soaring when feeling an improvement! Don't hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions about getting your pet started on their own journey!
Happy Friday!! Make sure to turn the volume up!

Spring time is here and it's more important now than ever to get your pet spayed and/or neutered! There are physical benefits for your pets, such as reducing the risk of developing certain cancers, infections and illnesses, reducing physical stress and improving behaviour, in...cluding less territorial marking, destructiveness and aggression.
