We had the good fortune of having a chance to explore the Glenbow Museum’s artifact storage area today, thanks to our team member Calista, who is also a staff member at the Glenbow. She took us through some of their artifacts in two small teams, while the museum was closed to the public. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to see artifacts from the plains and Pacific Northwest, that aren’t on display in the museum. She also explained a bit about how repatriation works; what... the museum is holding in storage and why; and how sacred artifacts are handled and, if possible, repatriated. The exhibit in the background of this photo is The Rise and Fall of Civilization by Kent Monkman. We recommend checking out his work at the Glenbow! AND the Glenbow has just announced that they’ll be closing for renovations on November 22nd, and that in order to let the community see the exhibitions before this closure, they’re offering ALL ACCESS week next week - October 31 November 8.
