You may have heard the term Executive Functions before, but what exactly does it mean? Executive Functions are a set of mental skills that allow us to plan, organize, make decisions, pay attention, regulate emotions, and get tasks done. We all use these skills to solve problems, evaluate the decisions we make and manage life tasks. For example, Executive Functions let you organize a trip, a research project, or a writing assignment for school. Research suggests that these s...kills are essential for students to succeed in school and for adults to succeed in life. Some children and adults, have weaknesses in their Executive Functions, and regardless of how bright they are, they struggle to complete schoolwork and stay on top of things they’re responsible for. Trouble with Executive Functions is often easy to miss because many parents don't know what signs to look for in their child. Here is what you might see if they struggle in these areas. If you think your child has difficulty with Executive Functioning, Appletree can help. Praise can have a powerful affect on kids who learn and think differently by empowering them and motivating them to keep trying hard. It can also fuel them to find strategies to overcome challenges. Some kinds of praise are more helpful than others. The right kind of praise can boost confidence and motivation, but research has shown that some types of praise can actually backfire and make kids doubt their abilities. Here are some great ways to empower kids through praise!... #learningdifferences #learningcenter
Project Follow Through began in 1968 under the sponsorship of the US federal government and was the most extensive educational experiment ever conducted. It was charged with determining the best way of teaching at-risk children from kindergarten through grade 3. Over 200,000 children in 178 communities spanning a full range of demographic variables were included in the study, and 22 different models of instruction were compared. Project Follow Through had strong safeguards to... assure that the participating districts actually implemented the approach it adopted. Evaluation of the project occurred in 1977, nine years after the project began. The results were strong and clear. Students who received Direct Instruction had significantly higher academic achievement than students in any of the other programs. They also had higher self esteem and self-confidence. No other program had results that approached the positive impact of Direct Instruction. Subsequent research found that the DI students continued to outperform their peers and were more likely to finish high school and pursue higher education. Appletree specializes in the delivery of Direct Instruction programs. All of our teachers have received training in the methodology of Direct Instruction. Contact Appletree today to learn more about the benefits of Direct Instruction, and how we can help support your child's academic needs! #projectfollowthrough #directinstruction #di #education #learningcenter #toronto #Etobicoke #brampton #milton
