A photo I have never seen before of my dear mother, Lillian sent to me by my cousin Elly...I love this Mom was about seven or eight years old at the time. She was born in Mexico and came back to New York City through the border on a train with her mother and family that had gone from New York City to visit their dad during the depression while he was working in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her mother, known as Marie Terriquez or Tutu to us Was a prof of Language, at NYU for about 13... years and 12 years at hunters college. My mother was eight years old when she came from Mexico to New York City and my grandmother never had taken care of her immigration papers and it wasn’t till years later that my father who was a Major in the Marine Corps and after having us three kids and we were all grown up that they went to Mexico to get her US citizenship Thank God After hearing all the nightmare stories of people in the Marine Corps who served their country and had a wife that wasn’t you are a citizen yet but had to two or three children born in America and mothers being sent back or father‘s being sent back because your papers weren’t officially done yet! If my mother knew that this was happening today and has been happening for a while she would be livid as she was a community liaison in San Juan Capistrano California in the school district of that area and helped immigrants families with getting work and food and clothing.
