Human babies breastfeed overnight. For years. Its normal.... Normal is rarely easy. It does not lead to poor solid food intake - usually, when something causes poor solid intake, breastfeeding is the one reason they are gaining any weight. It does NOT impact their teeth, other than in a good way - think palate shape and airway development. It does not cause dependency - we know that meeting a baby's need for dependency fosters eventual independence. Nursing to sleep IS OK. Breastfeeding DOES facilitate sleep. Melatonin and other sleep-inducing hormones are caused by breastfeeding. Almost like it’s by design? If waking and nursing your baby back to sleep works for you, it is NOT a bad habit. It is not a negative association. It is simply an association. PARENTING TO SLEEP is a human biological norm. Independent sleep is a modern construct. BF at night will not lead to constipation in most healthy infants any more than it can through the day. In fact, Breastmilk has a laxative effect, and increased BREASTMILK (a baby may appear to be breastfeeding but milk is not transferring, not the same) usually clears the constipation. Breastfeeding at night doesn't equate to low iron any more than BF through the day can. The cause of low iron will be independent of the breastfeeding, for most babies. The cause of poor iron intake (solids) is often the same cause of early or continued breastfeeding difficulties (oral ties, food intolerances, etc). Human babies breastfeed for sometimes many many years, and overnight on average for 2-3 years. Some chose to stop earlier, and that's ok. Others choose full term breastfeeding, and that's ok. Feed your baby. Support others in how they feed their babies. Spread good info. (This post is brought to you by Ashley’s general frustration and the letter X).

Sometimes when I don't know how to approach an email from a family looking for support, without breaking confidentiality, I will ask my husband for help. Ill read the long, worried story to him, and ask "what's the one game changer here?. I know how I feel, but I sometimes like to see if I'm on the right track or reading into the main concern well. Each time, he says what I'm thinking.... Each time, I'm reminded that parenting our babies while awake, while asleep, and while trying to sleep has been worthwhile. His answers are always simple, and short. "Just lay with the kid until theyre asleep" "Have the kid lay with their head at the parents feet so theyre there, but out of the way" "Put the toddler in bed with the 5-yo and everyone gets a safe comfy spot" "Just tell the mom to go out. Her husbands has got this! The toddler may have big feelings, but it isn't unsafe. Dads there!! Really, she needs to know that the dad's got this. And HE needs to know that she knows he is capable" Kev's half way through a Sheridan College program for CYC. A Child and Youth Care Practitioner. Gettin’ A’s and lovin’ it!! He is going to rock this new gig. He always gets the answers right. you

Sleep regressions. Progressions. Developmental leaps. Milestones. Growth spurts. Whatever you need to call them, they happen. Often. They are normal. They are your baby’s way of growing and expanding and learning. And so these periods of shifting and learning happen... and will keep happening. No matter what you do - growth happens!! Have you ever considered that you don’t actually need to know what leap it is? It simply is.... That it’s not important if there is a regression at 4.2398 months? The answer is yes. It simply is. There’s an everything regression. Consider that whatever the change... it is a symptom of something wonderful occurring in their life that they need to get through, in order to grow! You can just assume they are right, whatever the change, and #ParentOn !!! #sleepregression #growthspurt #sleepprogression #developmentalleap #milestones #developmentalmilestones #baby #babysleep #frequentfeeding #parentON

The theme of World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes. . According to the World Health Organization (WHO)*: . Nurses accounts for 59% of health professionals... The global nursing workforce is 27.9 million, of which 19.3 million are professional nurses The global shortage of nurses in 2018 was 5.9 million. 89% of that shortage is concentrated in low- and middle-income countries The number of nurses trained and employed needs to grow by 8% a year to overcome alarming shortfalls in the profession by 2030. . WHO estimates that the total investment required to achieve the targets outlined in the Social Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 stand at 3.9 trillion USD 40% of which should be dedicated to remunerating the health workforce. . Investing in the health workforce also has the capacity to impact other SDGs on eradicating poverty, ensuring inclusive and equitable education, achieving gender equality through the employment and empowerment of women, and promoting decent work and sustainable and inclusive economic growth. . IDF is speaking to policy-makers and nurses directly about the steps that can be taken to ensure health professionals are best prepared to support people living with diabetes in their communities through better education and funding.
