It was 146 years ago today that Dr. Andrew Taylor Still "flung to the breeze the banner of osteopathy". Who else is thankful for this man's life work? I am!

I am eager to get back to the office! As many of you know, Of Sound Body has relocated and renovations are complete. Jaqueline and her team have done such a wonderful job recreating this space and I am blessed to be a part of her clinics transition. There are a few changes in how I will practice going forward. Of Sound Body will be operating under a locked door policy, we ask that you don't arrive more than 5 minutes early for your appointment and I will let you in.... I will be screening individuals every treatment for COVID symptoms. If you are experiencing any COVID symptoms, please do not come to your appointment, you will not receive a penalty for late cancellation. Hand sanitizing is mandatory upon entry. Face masks are required. If you do not arrive with a face mask, you may purchase a washable 3 layer mask for $15. Strict cleaning measures are in place between all treatments. I will be reaching out over the next week to start gradually rebooking appointments. If you have any questions or need treatment urgently, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail. I will be prioritizing treatments based on need. Thank you for you patience during this re-opening stage. In health, Alana

An important message to all of my valued patients: Due to the rapidly changing situation regarding COVID-19, I have made the difficult decision to postpone all treatments until further notice. The health of my patients and their families is my top concern, and that is why I am making this decision. ... I am monitoring the situation daily to make informed decisions in regards to appointments in the upcoming weeks. Eat healthy, drink lots of fluids and if you are able, go for walks in the fresh air of the outdoors. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at 705 457 7270. Four years of year-round study is the equivalent of a 6 year traditional university education. I am approaching the end of my osteopathic education, having completed over 1000 hours of supervised clinical training. Very soon, my reduced student pricing will end. My manual therapy is a great option for chronic pain, poor range of motion, poor circulation, and so much more. My treatments are gentle and get to the root structural cause of symptoms. For more info or to book, email [email protected] or call Of Sound Body at (705) 286 1123

Inflammation is a process the body uses to heal tissue... the body knows how to heal itself. When tissue is damaged, the immune system initiates the inflammatory response which is necessary to heal damaged tissue and repair muscle. Ice delays this process by constricting blood vessels and allowing less fluid to reach the injured area, delaying recovery. This narrowing of blood vessels can also disturb otherwise healthy tissue, adding damage on top of existing injury. Read the whole article below regarding RICE theory (it's JUST that - a theory)

The pelvis is the structural foundation of your body. If your house’s foundation is not level, what’s going on with the rest of the structures sitting on it? The pelvis has muscular attachments going to the upper limb, rib cage, spine, and lower limb, and therefore has far-reaching effects. Everything is connected. Emphasis in manual therapy treatments is placed on the structural integrity of the whole.

I'm excited to announce that I'm offering my services at Of Sound Body to the folks in Minden. I work with the body through hands-on manipulation of fascia, muscles and joints with consideration of the whole body. My manual therapy is gentle and aims to realign and coordinate the body structure to free up the healing pathways of blood, lymphatics, and nerves. Happy Mothers Day - to all the amazing moms out there! The visual cortex is the part of the brain that processes all visual information. It's highly specialized into areas that process specific images like faces or trees.... Babies as young as four months process faces much like adults do, suggesting that these brain specializations form during the first few months of life. This MRI image shows researcher Dr Rebecca Saxe caressing her baby, with the brain regions responsive to faces lit up. The image was created by MIT researchers who have found that the brains of babies as young as four months old process vision much like adults do.

This is an intact nervous system that was dissected by two osteopathic students in 1925. This one is on display at the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University in Kirksville. The students - M.A. Shalck and L.P. Ramsdell - spent 1500 hours of their lives completing the painstaking dissection of the body’s nervous system, starting at the base of the brain and working downward, leaving the system in one continuous piece. After 1500 hours of dissecting, they mounted it on a slab of shellacked wood. They added hundreds of labels to the display and exhibited the finished dissection at medical conferences and museums around the country. There are only 4 of these dissections in the world.
