Well last night's virtual holiday party was fantastic! There were over 50 log-ins who joined in on the evening! We had the service awards, some video contributions, holiday greetings, a few expected technical difficulties, but it was so great to see so many familiar faces again, having such a good time connecting with one another! We should do something like that again! I haven't smiled like that for 2 straight hours in quite some time! - Jason

Hi again Arcane Horizon Community! Here’s some fun news for you! As most of you know, being our 25th birthday this year we had planned a bunch of big community celebration events throughout the year and then came Covid19, and those celebrations had to be cancelled. For an organization that is as community-minded and family-focused as Arcane Horizon, this has been a big blow for a lot of people tied to our community, especially the people who we support. Well, just so you kno...w, we came up with a bit of an unusual plan to hopefully address some of the disappointment and the current state of isolation. Tonight we are throwing a virtual holiday party for the people that we support! Our staff, especially Teresa Kuzyk and Leilanie Sarmiento, have been burning the midnight oil over the past few weeks to try to come up with something special in light of the fact that we can’t have a big GALA this year. So later this afternoon, all of Arcane’s homes, and all the people who we support out in the community, are going to try to come together online for some holiday cheer! Due to the fact that we are still in process of upgrading our computers and wi-fi capabilities, privacy considerations, and that this process is all very new to us, we are keeping the live part of the event contained to the 100 or so people in our programs who are available to try to make this work. Afterwards, we are hoping to put together a video version highlighting some of this event that other staff and family members can watch as well! So there’s that for good news! - Jason See more

So it was just announced that the Code Red restrictions will be remaining in place until January 8, 2021. This means no visiting outside of households, staying home except for essential purposes, and people will not be allowed to have holiday gatherings this month. Currently, the public health directive specific to the disability support sector and 24-7 shift staffed homes allows for 2 family members be designated direct contacts for people supported by agencies like Arcane H...orizon, but they can only visit at the agency home where the supported person resides, visits can only be with one designate at a time for short periods of time, while wearing PPE and practicing physical distancing if possible. Because some adjustments have needed to be made for our sector compared to the Public Health Orders to the general public, we will engage with Public Health and Community Living Disability Services to see if there are some directives that may differ for families of people that we support, and inform families and staff of any possible differences in orders. Stay tuned. - Jason https://www.cbc.ca//manitoba-covid19-public-health-order-u See more

Hi everyone. Just a reminder that as we are in a Code Red situation in Manitoba for the next 4 weeks, our offices are closed. Staff and critical services requesting access to the office for pick up or drop off of materials, can do so by making an appointment. Please contact Trent Whidden, Director of HR to make arrangements. Otherwise, please stay safe, and when possible, stay home. - Jason

Good morning Arcane Community. Winter still looms before us, infection rates continue to remain higher than Public Health / hospitals would like to see, and greater restrictions remain firmly in place. With these realities in front of us, I know many of you are wondering what will happen with the holidays this December. As the pandemic is an ever-evolving health crisis, this will be a question that will remain unanswered for days to come. Our agency takes direction from Publi...c Health, that are informed by the unique realities of our sector, so we will continue to remain engaged with our health officials, and reflect back the needs of our community regarding the risks and requirements of the people we support, their families, and our staff. We will continue to be open and transparent about those conversations, and reflect back changes in directives as quickly as we can. As Christmas gets closer, and people are wondering how this will affect visits with loved-ones, we will remain diligent in our efforts to keep people safe, healthy, and happy, and hopefully we will be able to see greater interactions with families over the holidays. But, we will see where this goes. Thank you everyone for your efforts, patience, and understanding. - Jason See more

I think it is time to dust off this plea to Government to be proactive in recognizing the work that our frontline staff are doing during this pandemic. - Jason

This is a good reminder. A lot of us are pretty thrilled to be in our new space at 1644 Dublin Avenue, even though the place is a chaotic jumble of furniture, files, etc that we are working at re-organizing. The use and layout of this space is intended to start shifting our perspectives away from a more conventional idea of "office space" to more of a "community space", that is accessible,, versatile, and shared. However, this has become a little up-ended due to the current p...andemic, and we recognize that even if we'd like to settle in as a group, we need to be responsible, and keep our numbers down. As winter approaches, we do spend more time indoors, and this creates a more serious threat to the health and well-being of people in our community. Because of this, we are encouraging staff to stagger their visits and days spent in the office, so that we keep our numbers down. Administrative staff have been directed to balance their time working remotely and working in the new space, so that we reduce our numbers indoors and the possible risks of infection to others. - Jason See more
