Today is the solemnity of St. #Joseph, the patron saint of #Canada, during this special year dedicated to Saint Joseph! Please like and share! St. Joseph was an ordinary manual laborer although descended from the royal house of David. In the designs of Providence he was destined to become the spouse of the Mother of God. His high privilege is expressed in a single phrase, "Foster-father of Jesus." About him Sacred Scripture has little more to say than that he was a just man-...an expression which indicates how faithfully he fulfilled his high trust of protecting and guarding God's greatest treasures upon earth, Jesus and Mary. The darkest hours of his life may well have been those when he first learned of Mary's pregnancy; but precisely in this time of trial Joseph showed himself great. His suffering, which likewise formed a part of the work of the redemption, was not without great providential import: Joseph was to be, for all times, the trustworthy witness of the Messiah's virgin birth. After this, he modestly retires into the background of holy Scripture. Of St. Joseph's death the Bible tells us nothing. There are indications, however, that he died before the beginning of Christ's public life. His was the most beautiful death that one could have, in the arms of Jesus and Mary. Humbly and unknown, he passed his years at Nazareth, #silent and almost forgotten he remained in the background through centuries of Church history. Only in more recent times has he been accorded greater honor. Liturgical veneration of St. Joseph began in the fifteenth century, fostered by Sts. Brigid of Sweden and Bernadine of Siena. St. Teresa, too, did much to further a devotion to him. #Saints #PrayForUs #PrayForOurCountry #Joseph

#ChristRoi See more

PLEASE HELP On November 6th, Hurricane Eta struck Honduras. Over two days, the Category 4 monster pummelled the country, leaving 30% of the population affected by flooding. About 175,000 people have been evacuated; 45,000 are in temporary shelters; 103,000 are stranded beyond contact; and 64 are confirmed dead. If that is not bad enough, a Category 5 storm, Hurricane Iota, is about to strike Honduras by November 17.... Development and Peace Caritas Canada’s partners, who were already on the frontlines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, are now coordinating a humanitarian coalition’s response to this latest emergency. Soon, they will be distributing rations and hygiene supplies and conducting detailed damage assessments. When Hurricane Mitch devasted Honduras in 1998, Canadians responded with overwhelming generosity. It is time for us to show our solidarity once again. Please donate generously here: https://www.devp.org//ar/hurricane-hit-hondurans-need-help, so our partners can help Hondurans recover from Hurricane Eta. Development and Peace - Caritas Canada

Veuillez partager!

Please share! This week, Archbishop Albert is proposing a pot-pourri of reflexions, of sorts. Although the new normal is quite different. It remains important however, while vigilantly respecting all health directives, to remember normal, every-day things. Life goes on! Issues, such as the question of medical assistance in dying - euthanasia - continue to develop, and it continues to be important for us, Christians, to be heard on the political arena. Archbishop Albert also ...takes a moment to look ahead at the upcoming Solemnity of All Saints, this Sunday. This solemnity is the flip side of Easter: we too, humans, in our every day lives, may hope to share in Christ’s eternal life! Please don’t forget to joins us this Sunday for the installation as an acolyte of Serge Buissé, one of the many steps towards his ordination to the priesthood for our diocese! Join us Sunday at 10 AM, at the YouTube page for the parish of Sts-Martyrs-Canadiens here: https://bit.ly/3e5GXA7

The 2020 Catholic Education Sunday theme, "Those who hope in the Lord will review their strength" (Isaiah 40:31) resonated deeply with the context of our lived reality. Rooted in our faith, we remain people of hope trusting in the Lord. We invite you to pray the following novena daily, from Oct. 29 until Nov. 6 for Catholic Education. Many thanks to the Diocese of Calgary for this great resource!
