You all know that I’m a part-time creative person. You may not know that more than half of my friends make their living as musicians, writers, actors, DJs, artists, behind the scenes peeps in film and other industries. They should not be expected to retrain in cyber. They should not have to apply for jobs in the local supermarket. They should be paid well to bring the rest of us the beauty and comfort of music, art, image, film, dance and all the stuff we don’t do ourselves but that brings us such joy. Light Up Live The effect of shutting down a $100 billion industry in Canada will have unimaginable impacts on both companies and individuals. Already, the vast majority of live event workers have been out of work or on government support since March, with no end in sight. On September 22nd, venues and buildings across Canada will be lit up in red to bring attention to our industry. The goal is to ensure the government recognizes the struggles of the live event industry. We we...re the first to shut down and will be the last to restart. We want the government to commit to continued financial support for live event workers until the industry is back to work.
