The Nova Scotia SPCA is looking for supporters to contribute to their annual bake sales for wagging tails! The SPCA shelters do not receive any government funding and with the difficulty of COVID-19, the SPCA is struggling now more than ever. Anyone can participate and pick a fundraiser of their choosing. Similar to a GoFundMe page, you can share your fundraising page and ask your supporters to donate to a cause you care about. ... This year, the top fundraiser/fundraising team will be crowned with naming the next litter of adorable SPCA kittens! If you're able to do so, donate with our team online at https://www.canadahelps.org/s/AeY88 before March 15th, 2021. #FurtherTogether

As of January 18, 2021, the Human Organ and Tissue Donation Act comes into effect. Most Nova Scotians will be deemed to consent to donate their organs and tissues on death unless they opt out. The deemed consent only applies to a deceased person’s donation for the purpose of transplantation. Nova Scotians may select which organs and tissues they wish to donate, giving them the opportunity to give limited consent. Decisions respecting donation after death will be recorded in a... registry. The deemed consent does not apply to some people, such as: children under 19 years of age, those not ordinarily resident in Nova Scotia, or those who lack legal decision making capacity. A substitute decision maker may opt out for those who lack capacity. If you have a Personal Care Directive, speak to your delegate about your personal choice and keep your legal documents up to date. For more information on the new process, see: https://novascotia.ca/organ-and-tissue-donation-changes.

Did you know the Realtor is often paid out of the sale proceeds by the Seller? If you have your own Realtor, they will receive their fee out of the sale proceeds, and they will divide the entire commission with the listing Realtor. When there is one Realtor, they will represent the Seller but will also have an obligation to treat you fairly. You will sign some documents acknowledging what duty the Realtor owes you and any aspects about commission will be dealt with in these a...greements. Knowing more about Realtor obligations before you make your offer will serve you well. Take a look here for the best information specific to your Realtor in Nova Scotia. See https://nsrec.ns.ca/consumers for more information about your relationship with the Realtor. Your Realtor is there for you and will work to get you in your home by handling any amendments, help you satisfy your contract conditions and answer any questions about the buying process you may have. Your Realtor will also work with us, the lawyers, to make sure your purchase goes as smoothly as possible. Reach out to our property team at Arcus Legal for more information. #FurtherTogether

When you start searching for your first home or any home it is important to plan ahead and think about what you want most. Your search for a new home is special to you - so before you start, identify your priorities. This list should reflect your needs and the needs of your family, whether growing or downsizing. Hot markets are not ideal for finding a good match in all cases, but you will be better served at least knowing what you want and do not want. Apart from needs, mak...e sure you understand your market range and meet with a mortgage broker or specialist to obtain a pre-approval for your mortgage. This will establish your price range and speed up your offer process. Ask your financial institution or real estate agent about the pre-approval process if you are unsure. Contact our property team at Arcus Legal for more information and let's go #FurtherTogether.

Happy Fur Foot Friday! Dexter is sporting his suit at the office today :) Did you know that the SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health? Striving to be approachable, understanding, and non-judgmental, the SPCA offers no fee surrenders for pets and stray animals. With unexpected situations occurring in life and understanding how difficult it is for the owner to make the tough decision to surrender a pet, the SPCA ensures they will be re-homed into a loving family and suitable type of home! Book an appointment ahead of time to ensure the SPCA has lots of time to prepare a cozy space and a smooth transition for your pet.
