Diwali needs to be different this year. Peel’s case counts remain high and our test positivity is the highest in Ontario. This year: - Practice your prayers at home. - Live stream services rather than attend in person. - Decorate your home but celebrate with people inside your household only do not invite extended family or friends into your home. ... - Make your favourite foods and share a meal virtually - Drop gifts off outside the door. - Call your siblings and offer blessings over the phone or internet. I fully supported the added measures we are taking in Peel Region to mitigate the rapid and dangerous spread of COVID 19 in Peel. I supported it because lives a...re at stake. No amount of negative, hateful and offensive social media or phone messages will change that; sometimes the right thing to do isn’t the easiest or the most popular. I have been in daily personal contact with many business owners and for the most part they understand this is a crisis. Some have chosen to stay closed and apply for the relief funding while others have again adapted. These are tremendously challenging times for them. Here are the facts: Caledon is a part of Peel Region Peel’s municipal borders are fluid and open Residents commute for work and appointments across the Region Caledon’s COVID positivity rate is higher than Mississauga‘s At this moment there are people, young and old fighting for their lives in ICU beds in Peel Region Hospitals across the Region are OVER capacity It’s time for a reality check, if we don’t get this pandemic under control by adhering to the new measures then we will be forced again in full lock down. Ultimately, the outcome will be a reflection of our actions and decisions. Tomorrow at 6:00pm Peel’s Medical Officer of Health will join me for a COVID 19 Town Hall and I will put to him all of questions and comments I have received from Caledon residents and businesses. To listen in to the Town Hall on November 10th 6:00pm Dial 1-833-311-4101, access code 132 242 1782# I want to acknowledge and thank the many residents who are responsibly practicing the core four protocols and who I know will follow these control measures. For those who are questioning the measures, I urge you to take this seriously to protect yourselves, your families, friends and community. We will get through this. Town of Caledon Fire & Emergency Services is teaming up again with Caledon Community Services (CCS) to support the ‘Santa Fund’ program ensuring that all families and children have food and gifts this holiday season. However, it will look a little different this year due to the health and safety protocols that are in place. Town of Caledon fire stations and CCS will NOT be accepting toys or gifts this year to distribute to families. Instead community members are asked to part...icipate in the program by donating gift cards. Denominations of $25 will be preferred and graciously accepted. All gift cards will be given out to families in need for parents and caregivers to personally shop for the items needed. Monetary donations are also being accepted online - ccs4u.org/donate. Canned food items are also being accepted. Gift card and food donations can be dropped off in person at the Exchange (55 Healey Rd, Bolton). If toy donations are received, they will be provided to Evolve Clothing (4 Industrial Road, Bolton) for retail sale, as they are equipped to safely handle these types of transactions. All proceeds from the toy sales will go directly to CCS’s Santa Fund program.

Statement from Mayor Thompson The Premier called me earlier today to share the news that Peel restaurants and gyms will be allowed to reopen with some limitatio...ns. I’m grateful that the Province has listened to our concerns and is taking a tiered approach to the pandemic restrictions. This balances the safety of residents with the tremendous economic impacts to our local businesses. A big thank you to Dufferin Caledon MPP Hon. Sylvia Jones who joined with me in advocating for Caledon businesses. Full release at http://ow.ly/drRE50CaBZF
