This Thursday at 7, join us in discussing TERRITORY OF LIGHT by Yuko Tsushima. This novel, originally serialized in the late 1970s as 12 stories, depicts a young mother as she starts a new life away from her ex-husband and raising a young child. In navigating Tokyo and her new independence, she shows a woman trying to find her way, with a great depth of emotion in the face of the trials of city life. Join us online via Zoom for a lively discussion of a modern classic of Japanese literature! Email us at events @ argobookshop.ca for the link. You can read the book in any language. You're also welcome to come if you haven't read the book, but there will likely be spoilers.

THIS FRIDAY! Join Jo Walton in conversation with Ada Palmer for the launch of Jo's newest novel, Or What You Will! This is a story about how stories are brought forth, "a thoroughly memorable story about magic, meddling gods, learning to love properly and all the ways the worlds we create can save us in the ones were born into," (Bookpage), and a "gorgeous, deeply philosophical work" that is a "knockout" (Publishers Weekly). And on a much more intimate scale, we have it on ...good authority that a certain independent bookstore makes a cameo on page 65! We have received a nice big box of copies of it in the aforementioned independent bookstore, so if you order a book through us, you'll get it signed by Jo, as a treat. Proof of purchase is required to attend Friday's otherwise free event; pre-order your copy at the link below, then email us for the zoom link at events @ argobookshop . ca! https://argobookshop.ca/ Of course, you can also pre-order it from other places or in other formats, in which case email us your proof of purchase at events @ argobookshop . ca and we'll get you the zoom link too. We look forward to seeing you there!
