Wednesday December 30, 2020 Dear DSBN Academy Families, As you are aware, all Ontario elementary students will be learning remotely during the first week of January 4th-8th, with a return to In Person learning on Monday, January 11th. During this time, students will be learning online with their teachers.... Teachers will be contacting their students on Monday, January 4th letting them know how they will be connecting for the remainder of the week. We realize that conditions for at home learning will look different for families during this time, and your child’s homeroom teacher will work with you to provide a flexible program for the week. We realize that some of our students will need to borrow a device from the school in order to learn from home. If your child has no other access to a device for at home learning, please email [email protected] on Monday, January 4th. We will do our best to distribute available devices as soon as possible. Prior to submitting a request, please note we recognize many of our families will be sharing one home device, and we are planning with this in mind. Please visit our school website Families Getting Connected Online tab to view tutorials that will support your access to the platforms we will be using. Because this learning from home period is scheduled to only last five days, we will not be allowing family/student access to the building to gather personal belongings. We greatly appreciate your support as we move into the online learning format. Though this isn’t how we had hoped to begin the new year, we will work together in providing meaningful learning experiences while learning from home. We are confident in our practices and know our schools are safe places for staff and students, and we are looking forward to our students returning to in person learning on Monday, January 11th! Sincerely, Derek Harley DSBN Academy Elementary Principal

Our Director of Education, Warren Hoshizaki, sent this letter home to families earlier today: Dear DSBN Families: During 2020, we have all learned to expect the unexpected. As we approach the start of the winter break, we wanted to share some information with you.... At this time, students are scheduled to return to school on Monday, January 4, 2021. However, the Ministry of Education or Public Health may decide to extend the winter break beyond January 4 for students. If the break is extended, I would like to reassure you that the DSBN is prepared to move to a remote learning environment for your child. Elementary Students: Students in elementary would have access to asynchronous learning materials which would be made available through our website at dsbn.org. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also be connecting directly with you during the first week of January. Secondary Students: Students in secondary would continue to learn by accessing the online component of their courses. How Information Will Be Communicated: Should the break be extended, you will receive further communication directly from the DSBN. We will also share this information on our social media and with local media. If the break is not extended, the first day of school will remain Monday, January 4, 2021. Preparing for the Winter Break: Although we do not know what the Ministry of Education/Public Health will decide, as usual, your child should bring home any personal items from their desks/lockers. Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you and your family a safe and healthy new year. Warren Hoshizaki Director of Education, DSBN See more
