We are experiencing unprecedented and very challenging times in our province. Every Nova Scotian’s life has been turned upside down, impacting every aspect of l...ife. As of today, there are 21 cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia. The first case was just announced six days ago. It’s inevitable that there will be more in the weeks ahead. Our healthcare system is already stretched to its limits. We need to follow the advice of our public health officials to practice effective social distancing and self-isolation. It is the only chance we have right now. Our health care system counts on each and every one of us to do our part. This pandemic is not overblown. Those returning from travel outside Canada: it is imperative that you self-isolate for 14 days after returning to Nova Scotia, even if you do not have any symptoms. This does not mean being locked in your house for two weeks, but it does mean staying away from others. You can still go for a drive, a walk, a bike ride, a hike. It does not mean going to the coffee shop or the mall. Again, this is a requirement from government. Those seeking medical attention: it is critical that you provide accurate answers to our healthcare professionals. Your answers direct them to use appropriate personal protective gear when caring for you, and keep them safe and on the job. Help them help you. All of us: we all must practice effective social distancing and actually, physically distance ourselves when we must be out. It does not mean that we cannot remain connected. In fact, during these times, we must remain connected and support each other. We still have the opportunity to take control of this virus - for now. As a local ER physician has recently said: This is our last chance. Or there will be a heavy price to pay. We are all in this together. This is our chance to all take action. Argyle Emergency Management Services has joined with the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth Emergency Services. Any information regarding COVID-19 will be posted on the Yarmouth County Regional Emergency Management FB site. In the future, Argyle EMO will be working with both the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth to offer emergency management services. This will allow us to share resources and better serve all residents. Please follow directions from the Province and NS Health to insure that you stay safe and healthy.
