Candid Post.READ!!! This was my job today! I had started planning this potentially beautiful birthday/retirement brunch for this wonderful family a week ago, got the restaurant to reserve the table for my client against many odds and her guests and all was smooth sailing initially. I had a 1 hour window to install which would have been typically been perfect for this setting but somehow ran a whole hour behind . ... I had seen the wall during my first visit to the restaurant and i automatically thought it’d be like the usual. Boy was I completely wrong.. after setting the table placements, it was time to install this gorgeous Garland but nothing will stick to the wall, I mean zilch, not a single thing. I said okay, I’ve used 3 different methods so far, I’ll run to Canadian Tire to see what more I can find and I purchased command hooks for different varieties and they all still didn’t stick. At this point, I was ready for the earth to swallow me cuz I had envisioned that Garland there and it wouldn’t make sense placed elsewhere plus we only booked for this spot. To my horror, the Garland never stayed, had to be completely taken off and I felt so defeated! my dear client was even more visibly disappointed and that shattered me even more. I excused myself to my car after I made sure they were all seated and balled my eyes out! I chose not to call anyone to vent to but I kept saying, God please just help me figure today out. I learned very tangible lessons from this experience; 1. You can be prepared to the T but oftentimes, things just don’t quite work out the way we plan or envision. 2. Feel the emotions, deal with the emotions (positive or negative), embrace the emotions but always move on with a significant lesson. 3. Always be honest with your clients and upfront about why certain things didn’t work according to plan. And in all this with total humility and a open mind to receive constructive feedback and criticism. Nobody or no business starts out perfect, we all strive diligently to offer the best service and experience. 4. Don’t write yourself off and always prepare yourself for all unexpected circumstances.
