Tinnitus ..... not music to your ears
Through the remainder of the provincial shutdown, Arkona Hearing Clinic is open (by appointment only) for essential hearing healthcare services (full COVID screening protocols in place). Curbside service for hearing aid maintenance and battery pickup is also available. Please call to arrange. 519-518-4327.
If you ever come across a hearing aid on the ground, in a parking lot, on the sidewalk, or the grass and are not sure whose it is, you can always contact us. We can usually trace who it belongs to, and then clean and check and return the lost hearing aid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svLFU-uAIms Many of my patients are enjoying the freedom of hands-free calling. Whether you have Android, iPhone, or even a Bluetooth compatible flip phone, ask us about how Unitron hearing aids can be paired to your phone for clear sound directly in your ears!
Trying to understand what people wearing masks are saying can be very difficult. This may be revealing an existing hearing loss. https://livingwithhearingloss.com//has-covid-19-unmasked-/

A big congratulations to my brother Mark. Many years in practice, many innovations, many eyes looked into, and many people seeing clearly because of him. Happy retirement!
A patient came in today and said he couldn't hear in his left ear. I said "Are you sure?' and he said "Yes I'm definite" . . . .... .
No one will think you're unusual for wearing a hearing aid. Even LEGO minifigures have them now! When asked what prompted the minifigure with hearing loss, LEGO said they understand the importance of representation in toys. They want every one of their fans to imagine themselves as part of the action. We are committed to developing our LEGO City sets in a way that ensures they are representative of the world in which children are living, LEGO says. Therefore, we will continue to include minifigures that portray people with diverse ages, professions, genders, and characteristics.

Did you know most current generation hearing aids can connect to your smartphone via a free app? There are some emerging creative ideas like this timely one from Signia. Pressing "Mask Mode" helps counteract the muffling effect of face masks so voices sound clearer in your hearing aids.
...and without them what would hold our face masks :) and glasses! https://www.bbc.co.uk//why-our-ears-are-unique-an/p08hzsw8
Our clinic is OPEN and were ready to see you! Increased sanitization measures Spacing between appointments Physical distancing wherever possible... Use of personal protective equipment Contact us for more info! Phone: 519-518-4327 ....And the foot clinic is open now as well!
A few things to remember when wearing a mask. If you wear behind-the-ear style hearing aids, there is an increased chance they will become dislodged, and lost especially when removing the mask. Be aware and use extra care. Also if you are wearing a mask and talking with someone who has hearing trouble, please speak extra clearly to counteract the "muffling" properties of the mask on your voice. Stay safe! Be kind!
Just a reminder to let you know that even throughout this closure, we are able to help you with your hearing needs. We are checking messages daily, and are arranging drop offs / pick ups for hearing aid repairs, batteries and other supplies, as well as urgent care appointments. Looking forward to seeing you all in person again in the near future :)
Stuck at home looking for something educational and entertaining for the kids (and grown-ups!) to watch? Why not learn about how we hear sound. Besides being one of my favourite topics, sound is also part of Ontarios grade 4 science curriculum. https://thekidshouldseethis.com//the-science-of-hearing-te
In light of the COVID-19 situation, we are following the recommendations of public health officials, and closing the clinic for routine appointments. If you have a scheduled appointment in the month of March with us, you will receive a call over the next few days. The clinic will be open at significantly reduced hours for emergency appointments, hearing aid repairs, and hearing aid batteries. Please call before you come. 519-518-4327 The Arkona Foot Clinic is also closed for all but emergency appointments at the direction of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario. Please call 519-828-3192 Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Fascinating photo of a human cochlea, taken by a scientist, Ronald Pouyo, from the University of Liege, Belgium. The picture is called "Spiral of Sound." Pouyo wrote: "This is a picture of a cochlea I dissected and labelled by immunohistochemistry. After that the cochlea was clarified and the picture was taken with a Light-sheet microscope. The inner ear shelters the cochlea, a spiral of cells whose role is to capture the air vibration through the hair cells (labelled in red...). These unique cells convert sounds into electrical signals that are relayed to the brain via the neuronal fibers (labelled in green). All the other cell nuclei are labelled in blue. I consider myself lucky to be able to work on such a beautiful and complex structure, which has yet to be fully understood." Source: https://lnkd.in/gYbx9iS
