Today, I went on my first-ever virtual tour of Atlantic Canada to meet with small business owners and industry leaders and while it wasnt quite the same as... visiting the beautiful region in person, the warmth and kindness of these local entrepreneurs made me feel right at home. I started my day by meeting with the Lobster Council of Canada (Lobster.ca) to speak about the need to eliminate international trade barriers, and support businesses in this important industry. Then, I joined my friend, MP Mike Kelloway to tour small businesses in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, like TALO Cafébar a great family business just like the one I grew up in. Colettes Family Restaurant spoke to me about the challenges of COVID-19 and how they used the wage subsidy to keep their team of employees together. I also met with the owners of Arlie's Fashion and Gifts, a business well-known for great holiday shopping! This afternoon, I joined my colleague MP Pat Finnigan to meet the owners of Carroll's Bakery in Miramichi, New Brunswick a local bakery famous for their rum cakes which I hope to try in person soon. To cap off the day, I spoke with the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island about how our government can continue supporting businesses and workers in tourism. This summer is a great opportunity for Atlantic Canadians to discover their own backyard, and I encourage supporting your local businesses along the way! Aujourd'hui, j'ai fait ma toute première visite virtuelle au Canada atlantique pour rencontrer des propriétaires de petites entreprises et des chefs de file de l'industrie - et même si ce n'était pas la même chose que de visiter cette belle région en personne, la chaleur et la gentillesse de ces entrepreneurs locaux m'ont fait me sentir chez moi. J'ai commencé ma journée en rencontrant le Conseil canadien pour le homard pour parler de la nécessité d'éliminer les barrières commerciales internationales et de soutenir les entreprises de cette importante industrie pour les communautés à travers le Canada atlantique. Ensuite, j'ai rejoint mon ami et député Mike Kelloway pour visiter de petites entreprises à Glace Bay, en Nouvelle-Écosse, comme le restaurant familiale de Colette - une formidable entreprise comme celle dans laquelle j'ai grandi. Les propriétaires de TALO Cafébar m'a parlé des défis de la COVID- 19 et comment ils ont utilisé la subvention salariale pour garder leur équipe d'employés ensemble. J'ai également rencontré les propriétaires d'Arlies Gifts, une entreprise locale réputée pour faire de bons achats lors du Temps des fêtes! Cet après-midi, je me suis jointe à mon collègue, le député et fier Néo-Brunswickois Pat Finnigan pour rencontrer les propriétaires de la boulangerie Carolls à Miramichi, au Nouveau-Brunswick - une boulangerie locale qui a utilisé des machines fournies par lAPECA pour cuire ses gâteaux au rhum que jespère essayer en personne bientôt. Pour terminer la journée, j'ai parlé avec l'Association de l'industrie touristique de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard pour savoir comment notre gouvernement peut continuer à soutenir les entreprises et les travailleurs du tourisme. Cet été est une excellente occasion pour les Canadiens de l'Atlantique de découvrir leur propre coin du pays, et je vous encourage à soutenir vos entreprises locales pendant vos voyages !
